HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

Hmm I was told it was for the minimum possible contract... shame, I avoided a contract from them because of that!

well i got one yesterday and so far im very impressed - probably one of the best phones ive ever used. this is comming from a blackberry bold user (great phone), i was worried how i would get on with the onscreen keyboard - i can get fairly decent speeds with the bold and will be using the phone a lot for exchange work email. but so far ive had no issues - not quite up to the same speed as the bold as yet but if you just trust the correction software it works!

also coming from a bold the browser is a godsend. the only issue so far with the browser is that i cant seem to get flash video to work - for exmaple the youtube website should work fine right?

whats apps/games would people recomend?

Normal Android Home On Hero

Here's what to do...

Go to Settings - Applications - Manage Applications.

Scroll down to 'TouchFLO' and hit 'clear defaults'

Obviously this will clear the default action of taking you to the TouchFLO or Rosie UI home.

When you have done this every time you press the home button you will have a choice. Home or TouchFLO.

Got mine last night on Orange from Dialaphone and it's great, except...

It's still not connected to Orange? When I try and make a call it goes straight to asking me to register a talkplan - I thought the retailer did this?

I can give a big thumbs up for Orange customer service. They hadn't put the internet plan on my account but the woman was very polite and said it would be easier for her just to believe me than to chase it up so she'll give me the dataplan for free.

Had exactly the same problem. After hours on the phone to Orange and web searching, the only solution to this is a factory reset (located in Security). When it asks you to set up a google account for the first time, do it then. All from experience, unfortunately :/

Thanks very much, it was really annoying me that I couldn't sign in and no one seemed to know what the hell to do. Cheers Conrad11 :)

After having a play with the phone in an Orange shop I have decided to order it through Mobiles.co.uk on a 12 month Vodafone contract...

One annoying thing though is that I am currently with Vodafone and therefore cant port my number over... I have requested my PAC from them, which I should have soon, my question is can I port my number over to a PAYG on another network and then request the PAC again and put it back on my new Vodafone contract? I know its not the end of the world having a new number, but had this one for 13 years or more so would like to keep it if possible...

Yeah you can do that. That's the way most people get around it :)

O2 and orange now let you port into the same network, but i dont think voda do.

Are the orange ones loaded with rubbish and branding? Or is it vanilla and sim free? From dialaphone/mobiles not direct.

My HTC Hero without TouchFlo UI now seems far more responsive than before. :D

Are you in commitment (i.e. contract)?

I was on SIM Only rolling 30 days with Voda, and I just ordered a new contract with mobiles.co.uk on Voda. Then I called up Voda and asked them if I could port my number, they said no need to do that, just basically swap plans between the 2 numbers. So now I have my old, 10yr+ number on my new plan and they moved the new number to the SIM Only, which is now being switched to PAYT in 30 days so it'll cost me nothing :)

If you're on a contract though, I think you're stuffed :(
