The London Underground

Arrive in Euston after a relaxing train journey - walk out of station round the corner, flag down cab, Pall Mall Please / Victoria Please (depending on my trip), get in, sit down, check e-mail, drink water, look for hot women walking around, pay the guy, get recipt, get out.

Bliss.

Not really a fan of the tube during the really busy times.

As an occasional visitor to London, I like the Underground system. I visited the London Transport Museum and that was fascinating.

On 'Most Haunted' with Derek Acorah, they visited Aldwych Station which is now closed which also looked great to have a wonder around. All the tunnels and parked up stock.

There's a bit about people buried from the plague disrupted the digging of some tunnels as the pits were so deep.

Anyway, no matter how hard you look, you can never find 'Walford' tube station.

I would love to go on a tour of all the old stations. I think they used to do it but stopped now.

Anyone got any good photo galleries of disused stations?

If you organise a tour, I'm in.

It looks like they open 'Aldwych' for filming. All we need is a film crew and a script and some female 20 somethings in bikinis to get our tour.

There are several sites which I've spents hours reading through before, although I can't provide a link ATM. I've also got a very good book on the disused stations.

It's always amazed me how there is such a big gap between KX/SP and Farringdon in what is surely a densely populated area.

i guess, but there's not really that much there, just gray's inn road, which has plenty of access by bus
kings cross - farringdon is only a 15 minute walk anyway

one stretch that really surprised the first time i went on it was kings cross to angel and then old street. it's bloody miles away. before i took a look at a 'real' map, i was surprised that it took ages to get from camden to waterloo via bank..

having a look at the 'real' map is quite interesting

I'm sure I'll never live this down but I'll admit that I'm the proud owner of all of the Video 125 Drivers Eye View DVD's of the LU. If you're interesting in this kind of thing it makes fantastic viewing.

If you're not I'm sure it's like watching paint dry!

I'd argue that that map isn't wholly accurate as far as Farringdon goes because the station is right on the curve, with the FCC lines continuing south. It makes it look closer to KX than it is.

But I'm not here to start a fight :p

better? :p

I have a love/hate relationship with the underground. I've had some great moments on there, striking up conversations with Jolly American tourists, getting a smile from a gorgeous guy at the other end of the carriage etc.

The downsides are again, the heat thing. It's awful. And also the fact that I seem to come down with some sort of illness everytime I use it :(

We may complain of the smells, the overcrowding, the fares, the odd delay but it is a great system. :)

I agree. It's not practically nice, hot sweaty and dusty. But it is such a fantastic system and makes travelling around London so easy. Would love it, if we could find the money to do other major citys.

Use it twice a day, everyday. You will soon learn to hate it.
Why, compared to sitting in a traffic jam every day. It would be great.

at least on the underground for the most part it is reliable. I would much rather use the tube, than commute in most other citys.
