****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

not goona be buying one till price drops
fat ps3 = £250
slim ps3 = £250

Well,

Fat PS3 + 2 Games = £250

Trade in the games and you've got the console for abour £220 if not less.

That compared to the Slim, which is £250 with no games too put's the fat ahead.

The trade in value is an approximation, and I'm sure you could get more.

I dont know i guess we'll have to wait for more confirmation about this, does sound like a useful edition more on the BD player side of things. I'm still waiting for news on trade in deals on old PS3s if not ill sell my 80gb with 10months warranty later on in the year. As for the "cheap" look and feel apparantly it feels better made and more sturdy than the old PS3, i guess shiny= better quality for some eyes but in reality its not the case.

Now Im using a BD35 instead of my PS3 for BR use it makes no odds to me , but if I hadnt gone down that route, so would I

(do think its a little too late imo, as the PS3 is too expensive a BR player in its own right now - if it had this from the start it would have been a lot better)

On the other hand at least they have added it (if it turns out to be true)

I will probably end up getting a slim at some point, but Im not in any particular rush for one as I already have an original 60GB, as well as a newer 80GB in the bedroom

The issue isn't the build quality it's the fact the slims plastic looks tacky compared to the classy shiny plastic of the original.

They're trying to irk out every penny of the manufacturing costs so they can get the sorely needed price cuts out into the stores. The whole plan of making the PS3 a 'premium product' was an error in many ways and has cost Sony a lot of money over the long run. I think stylised consoles will become a thing of the past from now on, the designs will all be geared toward getting the most out of the hardware while keeping the manufacturing costs down, the first thing to suffer in these cases is always the casing.

Does anyone have any concerns over the cooling ability of this ? what are the specs as regards to fans/noise /airflow ?

No the bundled games are rubbish and you'd be lucky to get £10 trade in + everyone will be doing it and they will probably not even take them after a while.
And no it's still overpriced by £100, wouldn't pay more than £140 for any console.

The price did just drop. :/

I paid £500 for my PS3 (60GB BC, 2 games, HDMI.) in 2006 and people complain about paying £250. If you don't want one fine, but £250 is good value for a PS3. You get your moneys worth.. Unless you already own a BD player, 360, gaming pc, media server pc... then getting a PS3 is only worth it for the exclusives.

I guess I'm just kinda bitter reading people not wanting to pay anything over £150 when I paid so much for mine.

That's the first thing you notice... in actual fact it's probably reliability :p:(

Let me know if you find any good ones mate! I'm definitely keeping my launch console, but the 40GB that I use at my parent's house needs replacing with a slim I think :D

Cheers,

Su

i've not bought a ps3 due to it seems like sony are just money grabbing when every other console is cheaper now it droped to £250 tempted to get one but when there selling fat+ slim for almost same price ill wait abit

has blue ray player / luanch 360 not red ring yet / gaming pc and dont see point of a media pc when got a laptop+archos player

I fail to see how Sony are any worse than other companies when it comes to trying to make money/profit.

They're not. It's just when a price is so much higher than the price of the other competition. Someone has to get accused of "money grabbing"

What it actually translates to is "I'm not willing to spend that much, when I can get a 360 for cheaper"

I think £250 for a slim with a game, as advertised in a few stores now, is a pretty good deal if you want a PS3. I still think this price drop is more for the US/Japan market, in the US the slim is now the same price as the 360 pro but with 2x the HDD sapce, free online, built in Wifi and a BD player. If reports are true about the elite dropping in price and the Pro going even then its still a good deal if you want to play games such as MW2, FF13, Madden and still want a BD player. Think the 360/PS3 share 90% of the same games with differences now very small. In the UK the 360 is at such a low price compared to the US its going to be a while till the PS3 is at the same price as the Pro/Elite. MS pulled a price/SKU announcement at GC according to MCV, and reports that the arcade is increasing in price wouldnt be the ideal situation when Sony had just announced a Slim and a price cut. In the end your console choice should be down to the games you want to play and if you want a good BD player, those who have a 360 but want to play some PS3 games have now got a cheaper way to do so. If you only use it for exclusives and complain that you dont use it that much, then whos fault is that?
