****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

Do i not need to back anything up off the origonal drive first tho before putting a new one in?

Depends if you want to keep any save games?

If you're just replacing a drive in a fresh PS3 a straight swap is all that is needed. The system will auto-reformat the drive if it needs to.

Somewhere is already offering the Slim for 249.99 including a game. Shame the games are:

Far Cry 2
Quantum Of Solace
Assassin's Creed

I am not even sure if this is a better deal than the place selling them for £244.95 as you would be lucky to get a fiver cash for any of those 3 games?

The 80gb phat seems to be going for 249.99 with 2 decent games or more. Trading those games would make the price of the unit drop to the mythical £200 that a lot of people claim they would buy the PS3 at.

Slowly, ever so slowly we're beginning to learn about the internal differences between Sony's new PS3 Slim and its chubby ancestry. We already knew that it supported BraviaLink while talk of "faster gaming" was introduced (suspiciously) yesterday; something that remains very much in doubt until we can confirm. Now we hear that the fatboy gone slim supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstream output to your receiver. Hear that audio nerds? Bitstream. See the HDMI chip on previous generations of the PS3 didn't support bitstream output of the new(ish) high def codecs like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. As such, the PS3 had to decode it internally before sending it over to your receiver via LPCM. A process that could garble the lossless audio depending on your setup. Even though the vast majority of people will never notice the difference (or even care), PS3 Slim owners can still kick back in smug satisfaction each time the TrueHD or DTS-HD MA indicators light-up on their receivers.

Don't own an amp or no fancy speaker system so useless to me.

I've already pre-ordered one, but if the rumors that the PS3 slim does true HD bitstream is true then that's really going to sweeten the deal :)

I've already chucked my 60GB on eBay in anticipation.

I dunno if you already read this or the source from Engadget.

Incidentally, after fees and all costs, how much do you think a 60GB would fetch? Mine still has a 11 month warranty so I am not likely to sell it on, but it would be nice to know :)

Theres 2 threads going on here with same discussion. It's a pain keeping up with both

Yeah read that this morning, cheers though.

All the completed listings I saw for 60GBs were fetching £200+ but you could always offer buy it now, or sell it on a best offer auction.

You aren't suppose to, but I will take the listing down if someone were to offer a good price.. negating the comission, leaving me with £2 listing fees.

I'll let you know how I get on in any case.

Well, I'm thinking of renewing / rebuilding my HC setup and if this is true then I'm in the market for a PS3 slim !!.

I sold my 60gb BC PS3 for £250 on ebay plus £20 p&p. Only had the listing up a few hours and it was sold.

I also bundled in 5 PS2 games and 2 PS3 games. lol. :/

My concern would be fees etc that you get charged later. What was the total after you paid all fees postage etc.? Edit: I am assuming this was not recently, possibly when 60gb was more in demand?

Just seen PS3 phat + Resistance 2 + inFamous + Killzone 2 + Motorostorm 2 for 264 at a catalogue store (for collection only).

Again, flog the games you got the console for £200

Crazy deals going on today.

Holy merger Batman!

That is seriously good, actually made me think twice about getting a Slim or going for that.

Indeed, I am not normally one to plug deals, but those are 4 good games, and I have played/owned all of them.

Ahhh does anyone know a good way to backup Killzone 2, SF4 saves without doing an entire HDD clone via the backup utility?

I really can't be bothered doing them again, and don't fancy cloning a drive as I'd rather start afresh on a new console.

Just found also you can remove the PS3 + Killzone 2 and just get Resistance 2, inFamous and Motostorm Pacific Rift for £20 total !! I could eBay Motorstorm for pretty much that and get the other two for basically nothing :D

note: also this is kinda borderline competitor hinting, so this is my last post on this subject, in case dons are browsing
