****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

Same with joypads etc, I never buy any other brand than the manufacturer of the console.

Very true. I managed to get (as a present) a 3rd party PS3 pad. It took batteries and also needed a USB dongle to plug into the front of the PS3 to use it. Luckily and very selfishly I managed to offer the £ difference and get a sony one.

no, i own a 40GB so theres no point, plus imo, i think it looks ugly, though i can see the benifits of it being slim

Interesting opinion, given you've played neither :).

I have in fact used a horrific Mad Catz controller for the PS2. And also a cheapo Logic 3 controller for the PS2. Both were as horrible as each other in my opinion. The plastic felt really tacky, the analogue sticks were too rough and I don't think all of the buttons were analogue on either handset I used, unlike the Dualshock 2.

If you were referring to Forza vs Gran Turismo I'm not comparing Forza 3 and GT5 as they obviously haven't been played by me yet. But going on Forza and Forza 2 compared to GT all the way up to GT4 it is my opinion that Forza is not as enjoyable.

And it appears that I didn't read what you were actually quoting, sorry about that. :(

No I'm not, in fact I'm selling my 60GB as I already have a 360 and a gaming PC, I just have no need for a 3rd console thats hardly used.

That is very interesting, I hope we find what the architectural differences are in the 45nm cell.
I doubt there will be massive differences, it's a console so games should run on all PS3's in the same way.

Software BC is somthing that might be the thing that is possible or different but other than that what else can it be, there is no point in having it running faster.

I see a popular shops' website now offers the slim with a choice of 3 cheap games for £249.99 with free delivery.

It would cause no end of problems to alter the specs of a fixed spec platform. As good as it would be to upgrade the GPU and RAM, it would be a mess. The Amiga (if you remember those) Tried this and it was possibly one of the things to kill the Amiga off. One vague example: Imagine if a particular game was programmed from the ground up to run as fast as it possibley can.

Like the Nintendo DSi then.

Suprised no one has mentioned that FCC fillings show TWO entries for the PS3 slim.

120GB - Model CECH-2001A
250GB - Model CECH-2001B

Not suprising that they're planning multiple SKUs, but then it's worth pointing out.
