World of Warcraft Cataclysm Thread

edit: With flying mounts- people will be finding Ironforge airport so easily now :p

Now they're actually re-doing the world to avoid graphical tricks and everything will fully be there rather than optical illusion, they might actually open up the airport now; it was originally meant to be connected to IF after all.

Conversely they could just remove it.

Am also pretty glad they're finally doing something with Gilneas...I had conversations with former guildmates about this area and the whole worgen nearby situation about 3-4 years ago; its taken them a hell of a long time to actually get it done.

Still I hope they dont make Deathwing easy...I mean hes almost a god, and he's not exactly stupid either, so I really do hope he's exceptionally strong. I mean out of all the NPCs playable/featured in the Warcraft universe in earlier games, him, the Lich King (Arthas/Nerzhul) and Medihv are probably the strongest of the bunch, counting out a few of the burning legion et al.

Am almost tempted to come back just for the new heroics they're finally doing, and a chance to take out Ony, Nefarion and Deathwing in one stroke...

Anyone know if they confirmed the class/race combo changes (i.e. troll druids etc.).
They did.

For the Alliance: gnome priests, night elf mages, human hunters, dwarf mages, dwarf shamans.
For the Horde: blood elf warriors, troll druids, tauren priests, tauren paladins, orc mages and undead hunters.

Lol@all the stat changes, talk about dumbing the game down further.

* MP5: This will be removed from items and replaced with Spirit. All healers will be given a meditation-like ability.
* Spell Power: Spell Power is being removed from items as well. Don't panic, we'll be improving Intellect so that it provides mana and Spell Power.
* Attack Power: We're removing Attack Power from items as well. Instead, we're allowing Agility to provide the necessary Attack Power for leather and mail wearers. Strength will provide the appropriate amount of Attack Power for plate wearers. This means leather and mail items will no longer be desirable for plate wearers.
* Defense: The Defense statistic is also being removed from items so that players no longer have to worry about juggling around "the cap." Tanks will receive the necessary anti-crit from talents, like Survival of the Fittest.
* Armor Penetration: This ability is too confusing and "mathy." It is being replaced with Mastery, a stat that makes you better at what you do. More on that later!
* Haste: Will also increase the rate at which you gain energy, runes, and focus. Retribution paladins and Enhancement shaman will have a talent that allows them to take advantage of this benefit.
* Block: Block Value is being removed. Blocking will now always mitigate a percentage of damage.
* Stamina: Players will notice more Stamina on gear as Defense, Spell Power, Attack Power and Armor Penetration are removed.

That is just crazy. So all the fun of theorycrafting has basically been removed. This was 1 of the fun parts, juggling, arguing with guildies, and being able to do things a little differently to the others playing the same class.

I thought they had just changed the mana regen to make mp5 on items more important, or were going to? Also, wasn't the change brought in/thought about after Spirit was nerfed in the last mana regen update?

they nerfed spirit and buffed MP5 for some classes to try and make them more equal.
they then nerfed spirit again.
making mp5 too powerful

That is just idiotic. I hope the players complain :/

they add/remove stats each expansion, its to help with balancing.
else you end up getting increasing complicated stats, with weird scaling.

and most of them arent dumbing down, just reworking.

armour pen + spell pen = mastery

only dumbing down there is fixing block.

I like the sound of Death Wing and Ragnaros being back (and angry) but I doubt I will play again.

After a few weeks of being 85 it will just get boring.

No, they are removing stats (spell power, armor pen, attack power) entirely and boosting the 'base' stats such as strength , agi and intellect to compensate. It takes a whole dimension out of the game, I enjoyed looking at different gear to compare which was most suitable for me.

It's hardly complicated either, IIRC you hover over the tooltip and it tells you exactly how much spell power = damage % increase etc.

I just feel that they are simplifying it for no reason whatsoever. Have scoured their forums and cannot find a single thread asking for it to be changed/removed/modified, hence why I deem it unnecessary.

I'm much the same, it really does sound like an expansion which will reinvigorate the game, but I definately wont be going back. Done my time in WoW, theres just no reason or urge for me to go back now.

(unless they revitalise world pvp and make all the zones capturable with capturable objectives in each zone and a dynamic conflict frontline rather than the emphasis being on BGs and Arenas. That might bring me back...but short of that, nothing will.)

It's not simplyfying in this case it's streamlining. For a while now every single peice of gear has had str+ap/agi+ap or int+sp. Just now it wont be an extra green line taken up by the old stat naming. It should have been implement for everyone for a long time, for example physical dmg classes get ap from str and agi already whilst spell classes needed the extra stat for it. It will be easier to balance future with this change.

The homologonisation (spelling fail) is the simplifying. Plate melee will use str, other physical dps will use agi, spelldps will use int and healers will use int/spirit with not forseeable derivatives being available yet apart from crit and haste now. (hit too but i suspect expertise might not be around for long either).

All sounds good to me. I played it when wow originally came out but didnt really have the time for it.

Havent maxed out a character to L80 yet as I keep starting other characters but i think this all sounds good. Certainly would be nice to fly everywhere and would make pvp very interesting.
