bull ****.

He is understandably annoyed that you are refusing to take any of the advice in this thread, despite that it will solve the problem and leave you with a superior system. It looks like incredible laziness on your part which ****us people off who spent time advising you.

This is not an inadequate heatsink. I'm going firmly with user error, either you clocked it quickly and lazily or you mounted it foolishly. It's quite rude of you to suggest that Ross knows less about the thermal limits of his processor than you do. Yes, he will have stressed it.

2 Days isn't lazy how very dare you! I had tried everything suggested in the posts above bar reinstalling Windows!
If you run Prime95 my temps didn't go over 65c either until after around 30 mins, they then got as high as 78c! Which is for my money as hot as hell! Thats was at 3.6GHz. Thats why I reduced the clock to 3.4Ghz

Well I am back to my E6600! There will be an as new Q6700 with a 1.25v VID going on ebay shortly!
I am not convinced with all this multicore witchcraft!

There's nothing about a Q6700 itself which could make your games stutter. The chip is essentially two E6700s joined together - it ain't witchcraft! If you're getting stuttering with four cores enabled, then the problem is going to be with the game or your configuration, not the chip.

I agree.
Like I have already said the Q6700 didn't bring me any noticeable benefits over the E6600. (For what I use my PC for) Trust me I have been at this constantly!

I have no faith that you clocked your cpu at minimum required voltage. Very limited faith that you followed the advice in this thread. Two days is not a long time, and reinstalling windows is hardly an epic undertaking.

Your chip is not causing this issue. It's either your imagination or a software issue.

If you do not use your computer for anything capable of showing a difference between a q6700 and an e6600 you are a fool for buying the quad core.

Then you have a wrongly seated heatsink or have bad case cooling or using far to much Vcore.

Do you know what you are doing?:D

Stop trying to be a smart arse.

Ross would have course stabilty tested his cpu.

You cannot even install a quad...so I would suggest thinking before you next post.

And how many people commit to something and pretend its great because they are too proud to admit they were wrong?
I once had a turbo charged car remapped, all the forums suggested it was the best thing you could do with your clothes on!
It was terrible, but thats another story!

Stick at it. The Q6x00 is a great chip - why do you think so many people on here are still using them nearly three years after release? Because with a bit of (dead easy) overclocking, it still holds its own against the latest and greatest.

vcore at 3.6GHz was 1.39375v
vcore at 3.4GHz was 1.30000v

I am using mx2 thermal compound using the pea method as recommended by the manufacturer.

Thats why I bought it! In hind sight I dont think the 780i boards are the best, however I have a stable decent setup with my Conroe.
A Wolfdale would be nice but is it just money for nothing?

1.3v sounds too little for 3.4 to me maybe you should bump it up a bit.

Oh and, yes I stress tested it well.

To be fair it clocked a treat. The only problem were temps.
Anyhow off to bed. Thanks for the advice, There is a saying, "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" Should be my motto!
As I usually think ooh thats running well lets see if I can make it better as I am sure a lot of you on here do too!

I'd go for a reinstall of XP (or, preferably, some form of Win7.)

It'll eliminate a lot of software niggles that you'd otherwise waste time testing. It won't take so long to do on a gaming rig. And from my experience, the occasional reinstall does XP a power of good anyway.
