Glass pint glasses to be replaced with plastic

What is this honestly going to stop?

People getting glassed? Maybe but we arnt going to get into a fight and go "Oh no glasses, lets stop fighting."

Idiots.

Hey, drunk louts are as unsafe as smokers, and we live in a nanny state!

One that releases convicted terrorists on compassionate grounds!

;)

That's the idea yes :)

Its not intended to stop people fighting but rather prevent more serious injuries as a result of 'glassing'

I would prefer to drink out of a glass to be honest. Can we not just ban chav scum from drinking venues? :D

OMG the irony this sucks! About 3 weeks ago i was involved in an incident where i hit someone in the face unaware at the time i had a 1/2 pint glass in my hand and shortly after i got arrested and im actually waiting till september to hear the verdict.

Now people are takin the **** by sayin you should have a plastic cup.

However wot i did was no more than an accident and i for one see no point in making plastic cups just make better glasses, ones that dont break so easily lol

Stupid stupid stupid idea. It completely ruins the taste of the beer, and plastic pint glasses are flimsy pathetic things. Lol at people saying it doesn't affect the taste. Also lol at people saying a glass glass is a deadly weapon. If it's a deadly weapon, so is pretty much anything else you might find in a pub. Are we to ban chairs next because some chav decided to whack someone of the head with one?

Er, welcome.

Not when you see how many people use these as very effective offensive weapons.

So it's perfectly fine for them to have KNIVES in pubs but not glasses.

Again with most of you lot on here, just another stupid initiative to grab the head lines by a government that has lost the plot :/

i can see the sense behind the idea but dont really agree with it, i worked in a rock club for a few years and we had glasses and glass bottles, and had very few incidents, most the time it was drunken people breaking a glass then cutting themselves on it, but no serious bottling or glassings, there are some places which i know do this already, a lot of clubs in liverpool now have plastic bottles etc, but for your local pub it should remain glasses at all times imo

You really wish me to repeat the point I just made Fair enough.

BEER + REAL GLASS = WIN

BEER + PLASTIC GLASS = ****

TOTAL NUMBER OF PUBS DECREASING = FACT

PUBS + PLASTIC GLASS = LESS BUSINESS FOR PUBS

LESS BUSINESS FOR PUBS = LESS MONEY TO RUN PUBS = INCREASED LOSS OF PUBS

+ ????

= PROFIT

Edited ;)

If they are going to get rid of glass will the glass collectors pick up the plastic cups instead, if not then I can see the pubs or more to the point the clubs becoming **** holes very quickly as people wont be returning the plastic cups or putting them in the bins provided thats if they are not already over flowing with rubbish.

That has to be the worst excuse for glassing someone I've ever heard.

"It was an accident, I didn't know I was holding a pint glass when I went to hit him innit"

This is a prime example of the reason glasses should be banned.

The government are going about it the wrong way, why punish all of us when it's just a few that cause the damage? Why not set tougher penalty's for those that want to commit the crimes.
Although I do kind of a agree that in some establishments it would be much better to use plastic, but that's not tackling the root cause.
