Glass pint glasses to be replaced with plastic

I can see why they would do it - the main nightclub in town moved to plastic a long time ago and good thing too - I've seen people glassed atleast 5 times and I don't even go out _that_ often - in some cases they didn't even really intend to do it but were so drunk they couldn't control it. Theres been 2 fatalities from it in town and a number of people badly injured... that said swapping from glass to plastic around 8pm while a chore would save a lot of plastic, still serve those who like it out of glass and most of the problems occur well after 8pm.

The crap club in hamilton uses plastic cups......but some **** threatened me with a champagne bottle! WTF. Me and the gf went to walkabout where we used to get 1.50 vodka redbulls, these have been outlawed by the council now! The bottle my gf got was also plastic.

Sort of feels like I'm at playschool.

The government are going about it the wrong way, why punish all of us when it's just a few that cause the damage?

How are we all being punished? Drinking out of a plastic glass is not a punishment.

Why not set tougher penalty's for those that want to commit the crimes.
Although I do kind of a agree that in some establishments it would be much better to use plastic, but that's not tackling the root cause.

No-one is claiming that it tackles the root cause, however tackling the root cause will be very difficult to solve. What this ban is about is mitigating the effects of the root cause. Hope that helps.

Having spent 4 days in hospital and 2 weeks in plaster after a shoddy glass cracked in my hand im all for plastic.

No actually would rather lose the hand than use plastic glasses all the time :)

The above injury is true, will try upload photos after bandaging off tomorrow ;)

Which doesn't work and just annoys people. Will alcohol related violence go down because of this?

No.

Agreed. Its just treating people as irresponsible children who can't look out for themselves.

Couple of clubs in town have reduced prices on popular drinks to 99p after 9pm on the condition theres no trouble on the premises or in the street outside - seems to be the most effective measure in controlling violence, etc. so far.

So for something that for 99.9%+ of cases is used in a perfectly safe manner should be banned?

What's next, banning deodorant because a idiots snort them?

99.9% safe? is that what your guesstimating at, i think you'll find its a lot lower than that.

Dude people dont jump in cars with intensions of seriously damaging people, your comment has no relevance whatsoever.

And people don't drink their beverage from a glass with the intention of injuring someone with it.

The comment is very relevant.
