Who has SKY HD+?

It was worth it for me yes, as I say I wanted the guarantee getting a Pace.

Why?

If you went through Sky then you would get an Amstrad. Yes it has the contrast issue in some cases, but it will be fixed with an update. Most likely with the new epg.

Don't want to sound like a jerk, I just think it's much much better value getting all the HD channels your package is capable of for a year and an HD box for the same price as just an HD box with only 3 HD channels.

Picked up a Pace box from Tesco today for £194. Made them open the box to ensure it was a Pace, and even then they said I could take it back for a refund if the actual unit inside the box wasn't a Pace for whatever reason. I thought it was a good deal, given I know I've got a Pace, and have a full 12 month guarantee unlike most of the boxes on Ebay and don't have to wait 3 months for a fitting. So Tesco is another option if you want to guarantee yourself a Pace.

On the box itself there is a sticker saying "to the enigineer: it is imperative to carry out a software update before call back", I assume this is a forced download, will this be via the hidden menu or is it a hold the buttons down while powering on job? If so could someone remind me how to do this? I take it you do this, then you ring up sky and get them to change your subscription to HD? (already have sky+)

I believe its a case of pulling the power from the back for 10 seconds and then holding down back while powering backup, do not release backup until you see the 4 lights on the front come on and you see updating on the screen.

6-10 week waiting list?

Ours was done in 5 days of ordering.

Oh and the HD channels look magnifico on our 40" Samsung LED TV :D

I'm new to the area, so had to look up where Cowbridge was. I'm on the other side of the city centre, in Parliament Sq.

Likewise - only moved down south 7 months ago, been in Hertford around a month now albeit not visible on google maps but still only a few minutes walk! I recall your thread asking for advice on areas, wise move ;) Anyway, enough thread derailment from me :)

Got my new HD EPG today and immeditaley set about getting ITV HD. Was very easy to do and the Arsenal v Man. Utd game was in glorious High Definition on my tv this evening.

After years of watching crappy ITV standard definition football broadcasts this was a treat. Just a pity Utd sealed the game in 10 minutes.

I just tried ordering it on the sky website but if I order from there it won't let me select the package as I want i.e. my current sky+ box moved upstairs to replace the standard box in my multiroom package. All the website does is tries to add a 2nd multiroom onto my package and tells me I can't have the sky+ box as well as a sky+ HD.

I just tried phoning sky to get it sorted but I couldn't understand the person I spoke to. I'm going to ring again in the morning and hopefully I'll have more luck.

I just phoned Sky and the process is a little strange, though understandable if they are as busy as they claim.

This phone call was me registering my interest in getting a Sky+ HD box. In a few days I'll get an email saying how long my estimated wait is to get the box installed. Around the end of the esitmated waiting time I get another email asking me to call a number to purchase the box and arrange installation.

Are they really that busy?

Anyway, I'm in Buckinghamshire so anyone from around these parts had a box installed recently and if so how long did you have to wait?

Just got an email saying 3 month wait? 3 months? Thats ridiculous.

I bet if I was a new customer I'd get sorted in a week.

I wish Virgin had more HD channels available.

I can confirm that my amstrad box allows me to adjust the contrast and is not stuck on high i can select low, med, high.

The contrast setting doesn't work on Amstrad boxes using HDMI. It will allow you to select Low, Medium and High, but the contrast doesn't actually change. Try it with a scart lead and you'll see the contrast of the TV actually change as you flick between each setting.
