Britain and Germany combined would not have the military strength or supply capability to invade and pacify the USA.
It is 3000 miles away from British shores and seperated by a vast ocean. Supplies, reinforcements and war materials would not be possible to maintain.
No longer viable? Only as we were militarily and financially bankrupt. If WW1+2 hadn't've happen, I'm sure the Empire would be alive and kicking today. Most likely with devolved powers.
