One could argue black looks better than chrome - hence why the boys over at e46 fanatics often black out their grilles as the first mod.

19 year old yanks who had a car bought by daddy aren't exactly who I'd be looking at when it comes to taste in mods.

In post-facelift form, possibly.

The only reason to own an e46 with a pre-facelift front end is an M3.

Not in my opinion, no. I'd rather a facelift saloon for the same money as a pre-facelift coupe.

I agree that titanium silver rules, and I used to prefer MV1's, but MV2's are better now IMO.

My first e46 experience was a 2001 pre-facelift 330d touring sport, in titanium silver with MV1's. I owe it to that car for making me want one

Diesel auto, petrol manual

I actually like the combo of the 330d and the auto 'box, however it does make for a less involved drive, but at the same time becomes a more relaxed cruiser. It isn't as economical nor as quick as the manual though.

The option for gear selection exists, but it is in no-means an alternative to a proper semi-automatic (ala SMGII) or a manual, but can at least provide a little bit more involvement for when you want to have a bit of fun.

So all the pre-2005 e46's you see advertised as M Sport are really Sport models and the sellers have added the M to make the vehicle appear better?

Normally yes although that second one quite possibly is an M Sport, as I'm pretty sure 54 plate was the changeover. All that changed was the name on the V5.
