he claims he guessed it for real using a made up technique that has no real information about it other than what he just said

A relative of mine worked on one of his programs and had to sign an NDA, so it'd never get out if they were actors, unless they want to get sued.

So it's not unlikely, or he just went through the effort of tricking some members of the public instead.
