Derren Brown - outdone himself this time?

have a read at the poeljames link above, think it covers everything.
Just saw it, completely agree with everything on it. Overall very disappointed with the show, maybe it's just me but it his explanation wasn't even slightly believable.

what an out and out fix/security breach. Can't see this working unless he had the cooperation of the BBC and why would they tbh?

plus if it was at all possible then someone somewhere would have done it by now . especially with such huge amounts of money involved. all it would take would be for a criminal gang to threaten someone who has the role that brown suggested a mole could be employed as

My opinion after the show is that he rigged the lottery

If he did do this, with or without Camelot's collusion, if it ever got out, he and everyone involved (including some of C4's top bosses), could end up in prison.

He did not rig the lottery, due to high possibility of him ending up in prison, if it was investigated.

no one can say it was a bad show/trick though imo. especially when just looking at this thread you can see how many people have fallen for it. it will be the talking and arguing point in every work place on monday

I think that what Brown did was a trick. It was done in a way that only he knows. There is no way in hell that he used 24 people to predict numbers and use their averages. Mathematically and scientifically, this makes no sense.

This - with the exception that at least one of the sets of predictions (the one where they got three of six), actually did make sense. All the 'good' results were clustered around 25 - which is as the law of averages says it should be.

I would personally go with the CGI theory and the fact that this is an entertainment show that is designed to pull in the highest audiences that C4 has had in a while. Fair play to him.

Me too. It's just a shame that a lot of people will be gullible enough to believe his explanation when it's clearly nonsense. Tonights show presented three implausible options while completely missing the fourth, and obvious one - tampering with the show itself (CGI/split screen).

I must say though, a lot of people are effected by the power of suggestion. Next week, he will try and glue a lot of people to their seats and many of you will fall for it, simply because you want to believe or can be influenced in such a way. Unfortunately, hypnosis doesnt work on me (I tried), so I will never get to feel the sensation of doing something beyond my control.

I assumed power of suggestion too. If that's what he's planning, then I think he's irresponsible for one simple reason - he isn't in control of the viewer's environment.

It's bad because the "reveal" wasn't even remotely believable, not even a tiny bit.

Don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but he was obviously 100% sure that all the numbers on the balls were correct because it had already been announced that a show on friday would reveal how he did it.

So how about if none of the numbers that those 24 people (actors) predicted before hand were correct, he couldn't of had a friday show saying "this is how i managed to predict none of the numbers correctly" could he ...

So the only way that he could have 100% guaranteed the correct numbers were on those balls was to use a split screen. I really enjoy his shows by the way, so am just giving my opinion on what happened.

How many people GOT UP when he said, GET UP... GET UP.... GET UP. I did hahaha.

Guilty as charged :p

I thought it was a good show, but I had a feeling he wouldn't reveal how he did it.

OT But the bullet stunt Blaine did at the end was awesome in slowmo!

Which is the main thing as he has generated a huge amount of publicity for himself and Channel 4. I bet if it weren't for the hype, his next few shows would get a quarter of the viewers.

I think it's the marketing side of this that's taken the year's planning, the lottery stunt probably came to him in seconds.

From his other shows, the explanation at the end would blow my mind. Most times its so simple but so clever.

This show it didnt seem believable or clever really.

I would hope there is more to this, maybe in the later shows.

Why would it take him a year to write some numbers on the wall and then sit with a group for 3 weeks and get them to write numbers?

There must be more to it.

Maybe the whole point of this lottery trick was to get us to watch the advert for next weeks show that came right at the end...

I mean why did he use a mouse for half of this show? What does that mean? And why did he go to all that bother to explain the coin trick when he had little to do with 28 people sitting in a room drifting to sleep and writing numbers?

There must be more to this, its not his style to be so predictable and boring!

read the thread for full explanation! in short he didnt say but he tricked people into believing 1 of 2 bogus/fake methods.

i have read most post, and search the internet high and low, and it appears without seeing it, he makes it seem like he's bailed out and given some weird explanation. I would love to see it but 4od isnt showing it.

really ? this is all i have ever thought about brown right from the start

he is king of the hype and then pretty much nothing happens if you think about it logicaly and dont believe hes actual magical (eg. roulette , zzzz) a lot of his other stuff revolves around people making choices where he very cleverly use body language and words to hint them towards the choice he wants them to make

he could honestly hype up having a tommy tank as been something new and amazing

For those who believed he rigged the lottery, no he didn't. That would be fraud and thus illegal.

However, given the number of believers even here, I wouldn't be surprised if Camelot get a flurry of letters of complaint as a result. In fact, I predict someone is going to have to make an apology for that somewhere down the road, and I think my prediction is somewhat safer than the 'wisdom of crowds'. :)
