Best 1TB HDD..

when under random access you can get bit of noise from them, i got 3 WD 1tb greens, 2 blacks and one segate .10

the blacks and segates do get warm to hot the greens are norm just warm and they run quite as well (WD greens have very good NCQ it can norm do 2-3 random reads or writes per spin, make sure system is set to RAID or AHCI so NCQ can be used)

I'm used to Samsungs and not hearing them (and not because they're dead lol)

Building a new PC soon and would ideally like quiet drives as it's going to double as a HTPC.

samsungs are norm very quite and heat as well, not on my trade list where i get my stuff from so cant buy them, the WD Green hdds are next best thing

Samsung F1 or Seagate 7200.12. Wouldn't go near a Seagate after the issues they've had, so get the Samsung. The Seagate is quicker though....
I've been buying Seagate drives forever, but last year I had a whole load of them fail in succession. Will take me a very long time to trust them again...

I've got a Seagate something or other 500gb drive, which seems to have absolutely no spinning noise, but a ridiculously noisy clicking sound from the heads (I presume head damage) - got a WDblack 1tb with similar (if not quite so bad) symptoms, and am now moving onto a samsung F3. Judgement on the latter will be coming on monday :-)

samsung all the way, had myne for ages and still going strong, although its not the 1tb one :(
