Was thinking just the same, if its true it is indeed very impresive.
 
Yeah i will be holding out aswell.Firstly to see if any games actually need such power in the foreseeable future at my resolution and for the prices to go down...i will probably upgrade at the end of next year more than likely.Im not one for upgrading just because something is new and shiny if it's not needed.Looks very impressive though i must say.
 
Don't think MW2 is doom3 engine*... and cryengine 1 can still pull off some pretty high end stuff with little modification... the architecture can be upgraded to newer rendering features without a massive overhaul in most cases.


* More like quake 3 engine... so like 1999 ish.

Highly modified, but yeah old. COD games run very well on all kinds of hardware.
 
Personally I like the look of the engine they use in COD4 (idtech3 with rewritten DX rendering front end) its much more believable and immersive than the flashy style over substance engines used in many games.

I wonder how it will handle ArmA2 and OPF2? I've stopped playing ArmA2 until more patches come out (just seen that 1.04 is out) and until I have a quicker card. (I'm assuming it's the GPU and not CPU which the game needs more of).
 
I love how the nvidia boys have the attitude: "ati's new SINGLE gpu card doesnt beat the nvidia DUAL gpu card that costs 2x as much, so its rubbish".

Seriously, take a backseat!
 
How do you figure it will cost twice as much? 295GTX can be had for a little over £300 and the 5870 will be on sale for circa £300.
 
Everyone has to remember that these are the earliest drivers for the 5800 series, wheres the drivers used for the 295 are the end of line, perfectly mature drivers.

Id expect the ATI figures to increase 10-15% over the first few weeks/months.

Sorry for asking another stupid question it's just I'm about to choose between the X58 and P55 chipsets and I'm worried if I where to buy either the new ATI5870 or the Nvidia295 that it could lose performance due to the P55 with it's single 16x PCI-E 2.0 lane :confused: with this in mind would I be better going X58? I will be using a single card just not sure which one, but I'm leaning towards the new ATI5870 and when funds permit probably a second card :D

I'll be interested to sit back and read peoples' experiences before, if, I eventually buy one. I think I'd like to see them produce better minimum frame rates (though with an X2 it hardly matters 'cause it has enough power under the hood anyway:D) and a little less choppy fps. These are relatively minor points though.

How would raise the FPS limit using vsync? I thought 60Hz=60fps as limited by the LCD unless you have a snazzy flatscreen?

But if it can be done, how would you do it with BF2 in particular? :D

So would that mean performance would increase in games with newer drivers? If so thats amazing.
