No real need to machine polish unless it is to remove defects in the paint, it's not a maintenance thing. Any more than once a year and I question what you are doing to your paintwork to warrant it!
Think you are reading into the word 'detailing' a little too far, in my eyes it's just the modern version of valeting but it's not concourse - at least not what I got done
Basic process was:
Solvent
Washed With Shampoo/Rinsed
Clayed
Machine Polished
Waxed
Pretty much a standard process for pain correction. There were no cotton buds out or magnfying glasses
Main reason for the closes ups is the colour is very chameleon. It is a deep burgundy but can look pitch black, bronze, reddy and purpley. It's very hard to get a true picture of the colour that is seen in sunlight.

The quality is poor - front bumper looks like it's home made >_<

It's umm... strange. It's some kind of metallic flick but it's got blues, yellows, reds in.
Looking top down its bronze, then as you move around and down it goes a deep red. It's very subtle and without direct sunlight/strong artificial light it appears to be black.

Because most people would rather see a clear shot of the car at a non-neck-breaking angle.

Posted to show the paint results and colour starting to come out, this picture happened to show the colour and quality of the finish better than a lot of the others.
Lee at extreme detailing worked on my car, I recognise that modified "thing" next door.
I was amazed at the results after Lee had spent 8 hours with it, very good value for money with him
