Derren Brown - outdone himself this time?

I honestly believe it was a load of rubbish, just like his predicting of the lottery numbers, the gullible people of our nation will take it all in however.

Why wouldn't a recording of the show work?, why did you have to watch it live for it to work? Numbers, they wanted as many people as possible watching that show and all those adverts.

A whole lot of people fell for his trick, however he didn't lie to you, he did control the nation and he did glue you to your seat, just not in the way you thought he would.

Well he didn't glue me to my seat but he did glue two of my friends to their seat. I don't find it hard to believe that it would work either just like being hypnotised.

And when did he say you had to watch it live for it work? We watched on Channel 4 +1 and it worked on two of my friends. It probably didn't work on you because you can't concentrate or pay attention to what he's saying.

Did it really work on your friends though or were they kidding themselves?

My sister-in-law said it worked on her, however she is the sort of person who would want it to work on her, one of the 'Bright and Open-Minded' people as Derren put it, that the experiment would be more likely to work on. She believes in Ghosts etc. she is that kind of person to be sucked in by someone like David Blaine or Derren Brown, so she would have convinced herself that she was stuck to that chair.

How many people here did this actually work on, and were you genuinely stuck or were you kidding yourselves a bit? be honest...

No reason to question their honesty, hours later they still said it had worked on them.

This just seems like a more ambitious version of the "arcade game" he created in one of his first series.

Not calling your friends liars, I just find the whole thing really hard to believe, I did try the experiment myself with an open mind and wanted it to work (I mean who wouldn't that's pretty cool!). I can't help but think if Derren could really do this kind of thing, and predict lottery numbers, he could be a much more powerful and rich man than he currently is.

I believe it to be a con, that's just my personal belief.

I didn't see the 'arcade game' show so cannot comment on that.

It's not a con. Well, sort of. Just as with hypnosis, the person in control of everything is you, but you've convinced yourself you're not.

So in a sense it is a con - Derren of course does not have super powers, he just realises that some people are open to suggestion and open to being manipulated, or rather letting themselves be manipulated.

Of course nobody is stuck in a chair, they've just convinced themselves that he really can have this power (or rather he has convinced them), and the sense of its realism has overpowered their doubts, to such a point that their subconcious takes over.

That is why it doesn't work on some people - they realise that there's no logic behind what he's saying, and so his efforts to convince you of otherwise don't work.

Read his book "Tricks of the mind", he explains it's all 'fake' (that is, fake as if in it's all in the mind of the subject) and how he does most of his stuff.

This makes complete sense, great post!

Last week it was the lottery prediction rubbish. This week he thinks he is the Demon Headmaster. Really ought to get back out amongst people and be an entertaining, uber-smug so and so like he used to be.

Just watched this latest episode,it seems to have become too out there now and more about "me me me" ? I preferred the old series.

HAAHAHAHAA :D

Should have put a cake in front of her, she would have got up then.

LoL!!

I tried it twice last night, just to see if it would work a 2nd time on 4 +1, I even wanted it to work on me, but it didn't happen.

It probably does work on some people though.

Makes no odds. Still not subliminal since we all saw it. Thats a limitation of the medium.

The real subliminal things are the ones we didn't see...
The subliminal things were misdirection. It is pretty simple - Derren brown was tricking people into thinking they were being subliminally suggested/controlled, and the suggestible of us willingly followed suit.
