sonic weapons used in G20 protest

Sonic weapon?! I was sorely disappointed to find that it was just a loud noise.

I thought you meant some kind of directed cannon based on constructive / destructive interference or whatever. Maybe something that bursts eardrums or melts skin or something. Instead... Just a very loud car alarm. What a let-down :(

i was expecting those sonic tanks from the movie hulk...now they were impressive.
these are a little lacking in comparison

If it's an unlawful protest (eg. no permit), the police have every right to disperse it. Obviously this should be conducted in a manner proportionate to the level of protest, but as we know, our American cousins across the pond have a propensity for random acts of violence, so don't be surprised if you see their cops attacking people just for teh lulz.

In what way exactly, is a siren a 'sonic cannon'? I didn't realise I had two advanced pieces of weaponry on my desk :eek:

Sonic cannon == noise based dispersal.

I'll hazard a guess that the ones used in Iraq are somewhat more directional and powerful, but for a domestic dispersal the ones used above worked well.

people dont really understand, they are protesting for your future, the day that no one protests is the day they'll take advantage of you, and next min everyone is in chains.

I don't think some realize quite why this sort of stuff is bad in the long run, it's a slippery slope to a big brother style society or worse, i mean come on, permits to protest? riot squads, warnings to crowds to move along, more and more rights being taken every year, now they break out the sonic cannons and tear gas, next it will be the microwave guns (yes they do exist), it's all about control and they're doing a fine job controlling people when they are allowed to get away with this stuff, see the signs guys, something isn't right with the way our world is and seems to be going.

Our governments invade foreign countries preemptively, I don't think squashing a few protests is going to pose much of an ethical problem for them.

Look on the bright side, at least they haven't started preemptively incarcerating protestors as "domestic terrorists" yet.

they put permits in so it can be policed properly. to protect the protesters as much as to protect other people.
large groups of people can lead to violence very quickly, plus large protests attract those who are just there to cause trouble.

you can see in the second video, masked protesters charging at the police line, as well as what appears to be some throwing objects.

there are many hundreds of protests that are allowed to go on, the reptillian alien rulers arent taking all your rights.

Quite a few misconceptions people seem to be suffering from.

Do you think the permit is a permission slip from the authorities? Or do you think fore-knowledge of the protest place/time etc helps the authorities make plans so as to make the protest go as smooth as possible (e.g. traffic wise) The authorities do have to think of other people in the community as well as those protesting you know :)

Unfortunately the G20 protest reputation has preceded themselves so the police have to be prepared for the worst. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Ergo the riot gear.

Also seemed to me from those videos that quite a few of the protesters were initiating violence and causing criminal damage.

What would you have the authorities do? Just let protests run amok through city centres creating chaos, attacking people, banks and other institutions?

There is a bigger picture that the protestors have to consider. Also with regards to the tactic of removing protesters who are inciting violence i say well done to the police. You see the authorities DO want to preserve our right to protest but often people hijack initially peaceful protests for their own violent and personal agenda. Removal of the violent elements allows those peacably protesting to do so.

You were making reasonable points but you had to spoil it by making that silly comment to finish it off, all in an attempt to make my points seem just as nutty, such comments are transparent and won't work though some will be fooled, at the end of the day reality is obvious, the signs are there and its a question of what is really right and wrong, good and bad, people know in their gut a lot of the stuff im talking about is happening and it isn't good, just keep watching and we will see how this all turns out in our lifetime i suspect.

You might be right and you might be wrong. But that ^^^ is not a substantive case.

We shall indeed see where this all leads in the coming years...

permits are a away of saying what can and can't, filter the protests to suit the government it wouldnt send the message would it.
