Hey guys, reset my PC the other week and my secondary storage HDD was'nt detected by Windows. Tried reseating the SATA cables and the power cables but had no joy. So took it to a shop and they said it was dead, is there anyway at all of getting the data off it? Don't mind paying recovery costs or anything like that, but it should still be covered under warranty surely as its only was bought on the 24th of October.

This is the HDD in question ...

Any help would be great, I desperately need the data from this HDD!

Thanks.

For data recovery try this but if the drive isn't recognised at all it may not be any use.

The drive will still be under warranty but that only covers the drive, not it's contents.

Lesson to be learned from this - backups are important!

These are the drives that needed a FW upgrade. If they don't then eventually the drive locks out. The data is still there, it's just that nothing can access the drive, even the BIOS.

You can only do the FW upgrade if you can get the drive visible AFAIK, otherwise send it to Seagate.

We had a load of them at work, plus someone I know's personal PC had the issue

Unless you badly need whatever is on the drive then I'd rule out professional data recovery as it typically costs £thousands.

Hey, will this be free of charge then seeing as its an issue with Seagate and not me who is at fault? I got a quote of £220 for full data recovery with free postage and a free inspection as to what is exactly the issue. The data on the HDD is a collection of a lot of things over the years, and thus not easily replaceable at all!

Seagate have just organised to recover all the data for free. And to come and pick up my HDD withing the next 48 hours, was a problem with the firmware ... Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee :p
