Nokia N900

No MMS??? Oh my god, what are they playing at? MMS has been a staple of decent phones for at least 5 if not 6 or more years. That could put me off, unless the phone blows everything else away.

No MMS is a strange one, would have thought it would need MMS for most networks to pick it up, especially ones like 3.

The technical reason given was that it was almost impossible to implement with the current Linux kernel they use (v2.6). Apparently implementing MMS much easier with v2.8 but I doubt they'll move kernel versions until Maemo 6 is out.

v2.8, yeeeeeeeeeah that isn't how linux kernel version numbering works. They are bull****ting you. I wouldn't be surprised if it was still v2.6 three years from now. Also don't android phones (they use at least a modified linux kernel, which means any modification to the kernel that makes this possible would have to be open sourced) support MMS?

Any recent news about contracts etc...?

i actually HATE nokia phones(i think thats more todo with S60 though) but this n900 looks quite interesting

same, when i bought my N96 the bloke was shocked, i told him that i hate nokias but need a new phone right then and getting an N96 to replace the N95 was the easiest way to do it.
He was happy to take my money though :p

I can't see why they wouldn't. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if you could replace it yourself with a flash10 plugin (can't say for sure though, just guessing) as it seems to be very flexible being essentially a debian based distro.

I was considering some android phones, but if this lives up to its hype (and it seems it does) it blows all android phones out of the water. My only concern is battery life, which no reviewer has provided details for.

My concerns would be whether the antennae are as weak as in the n97, whether the resistive touchscreen is more responsive (could the n97 screen have been a symbian s60 issue or is it purely the screen?). Hopefully they haven't used the same crap parts again or it could end up a crippled giant... otherwise it looks fast, efficient and a great phone for web browsing, with multiple pages to jump between and 800 pixels wide rather than the painful process on the n97 of having to reload a choice of the back and forward page and jerky, unresponsive touch-scrolling.

Very interested in seeing how this phone shapes up when it is released though I share Monkey Puzzles concerns about the antenna and touchscreen. Looking forward to trying it out before I buy but going off the previews it looks like Nokia might be on to a winner with this one.

The N900 was shown at the 10.1 conference with the 10.1 software - so rather likely it will get the upgrade.

N97 is a dog, always was a dog, theres no comparison really. Nokia products generally have very good connectivity. The N97 was slow - hence the poor response time. Hopefully Nokia have the N900 covered - but I am crossing fingers as they havent been the best of late.

On the Nokia site, if you click on the pre-order it says its a tentative Novermber delivery

Damnit, I'm still waiting on my N95 contract to finish up (month and a half left I think) and they keep bringing out shiny new phones! I thought I had finally settled on the idea of getting a iPhone 3GS, but now this has decided to enter the fight.

Resistive touchscreen puts me off a little though, I have big fingers! I'll have to wait and have a fiddle with one on the shop first though. :D

I rarely use fingers with n810, it has a stylus and a stylus housing within the unit itself. Making it better and more accurate. Especially seeing as I am using a modified on screen keyboard from standard.
