Picking up new car next weekend :D

Previous owner was a lady so could have been fleeced for new tyres, told both front and back needed replacing, again something I will bring up.

If anyone is near saltash, feel free to grill the dealership for me :P Be much appreciated as my knowledge of cars is limited.

I doubt if it has been clocked, it was done by these guys. Prob bought from an auction somewhere IMO already clocked.

Ultimately you want a word with the previous owner(s). See if there is any paperwork or garage receipts in/with the car. You'd be surprised the stuff you can find in the glove box or tucked in with the handbook ;)

edit: the V5 will have the name/address of the previous owner.

Unfortunately I wont get that information until saturday as I have none of the documentation here with me, I suppose I could call the dealer and ask for it.

Surely if their is nothing wrong with the car they will be more than happy to let me know.

This sounds dodgy, contact the previous owner, or get the details off the V5 and stick them on here, I am sure someone will find out their phone number ;)

The number of owners does look very high for such a low mileage car. If it were a Ferrari, Lambo or GT Porsche I could understand it, but something like a Ford is typically a well used hack and I smell a mileage haircut at some point in its life. Has the car been serviced of late? I have no idea what the service intervals are on these so its possible it has not had one yet, which makes a haircut somewhat easier to sort, as does 1 service.

It is definately something i will bring up with the dealer tomorrow, need to call them anyway for a few extra details.

Namely the MOT/V5 numbers and the previous owners details, then ofcourse the question how come 5 owners but such low mileage.

Beautiful car - I love these and they're on my shopping list for my first "grown up" car when I have a job.

I hope there's nothing wrong with it, it would be a shame. Be careful though - 4 owners on that mileage isn't normal. :)

There may be a very good reason for the low mileage and high no. of owners, but I just can't think what it may be.

I'm not so convinced about a mileage haircut, perhaps it has some sort of paint/mechanical defect that is putting the owners off. Maybe it's a friday afternoon car that squeeks and rattles continuously. Drive it if you haven't already, but more importantly drive another to compare.

People on an ST owners forum reckon like most high running cost hot hatches that are appealing, people buy it without realising the running costs, that could account for number of owners.

Don't think its been clocked, the dealer looked pretty professional and the cars on the forecourt were some pretty decent motors, they would have noticed it as well through the documentation.

What happens when engines fail and are replaced under warranty. Is the clock reset? Doubt it.
What happens if the dashboard display fails and needs replacing? Is the old mileage stored on some memory chip/computer elsewhere and the new instruments are automatically updated when installed?

Just trying to think why a car with 14k Miles has had 4 owners....

Something fishy with this one I would walk away plenty of STs about. You could get a Ford garage to check it over and check the cluster mileage to the ECU mileage, a lot of clockers don't change the ECU mileage.

The service interval is fixed at 12.5k so easy to lose service history and fabricate a single service receipt from a non ford garage.

Though I am implying nothing about this dealer, the state or type of cars on a forecourt means nothing when it comes to a dealers likelyhood to 'amend' the mileage of their stock. You'd be amazed how often cars are given a haircut, even more so in places where most would think it would be less likely and often the more expensive the car the more likely.

I don't understand why you would ask the dealer why it has so many owners, he will make up some bull and try to fob you off if it meant a sale, do your own investigation and research into the car ignoring the dealer completely, unless of course he sold it four times, which I doubt.

No idea how i would go about that, ive done the HPI check, hence why I know about the registration change to a private plate, their wasnt any mileage information to display, apart from that it came back clean.

I will get the MOT certificate number and if possible get him to fax a copy of the V5C to me so I can double check (and hopefully get the previous owners details).

I know there are plenty of ST's about but being local to me helps if anything does go wrong.
