Noooo! They had that in the original and then in Arma 1 but thankfully in Arma 2 it was removed. You can't run whilst reloading which is fair enough, but having you completely stop is stupid! What happens if you start to reload and someone comes round the corner, are you able to stop reloading or do you have to wait for it to finish?

I always remember the time I was watching a games show on tv when the original Operation Flashpoint launched in 2001 and a guy from CM said something along the lines of "you can't reload when moving. That is how realistic this game is. If it isn't done in the real military, it isn't done in flashpoint." Bohemia have clearly since realised for Arma2 that although it generally isn't done irl it is actually more realistic to let player do it as opposed to flat out preventing it from happening.

Ignore me, you can still move. :D

The only time you are unable to move is when you use the scroll wheel to change your weapon. Using the number keys to change doesn't suffer from this though.

Nope, it looks like this, runs well, seems to use all four cores on this Q6600. Just getting into it at the moment, there are a few things that are annoying, such as the slow weapon/equipment change and the inability to move when changing them using the scroll wheel. But this stuff can be fixed in patches I suppose. I have yet to try it online, there are a few servers up, but pings are quite high.

that actually looks decent, although i wouldn't buy a game purely for the eye candy ... still can't believe they would release a game with no dedicated servers and no protection/serial :(

i was looking forward to this game and getting me pre-order :( ... war games have to be mass online mayhem !

it is bound to have a few bugs and I think the dedicated server issue was a bit of a mistake but I have full confidence in this title and that issue being resolved.

Not having dedicated servers isn't a bug, its just plain stupidity and/or laziness. theres too much of this "oh, release it unfinished now and patch it in later" nonsense going on. they should start fining them or something, Its like buying a car, and being told you can only have it with 3 wheels until a week next Tuesday.

I'm not buying it unless they make dedicated servers available. I don't want to play singleplayer or bloody co-op, most of the reviews seem to say that the AI is reasonably thick.

enjoying it so far, only on the first mission as i'm doing all the secondary missions as well. However I've encountered a bug which a few others have mentioned on the official forums. If you try to select the different types of ammo using the ' key it renders the mouse wheel useless, and you cant select weapons :(
Yup I've hit that one, mouse pointer completely disappears from menus etc too - you have to come all the way out of the game and reload it to get it back.

Also I bound "use" to NUM ENTER, and whilst it works it doesn't close properly - e.g. if I press it on a dead body or ammo crates to pick up stuff, I can't close the item list box by pressing NUM ENTER again. Only way I managed to fix it was binding a secondary key to it.

Played the first level on campaign, sounds are very good and the long distance firefights makes it fresh gameplay.

Game on max settings it about 100fps, no slowdown...but the eyecandy isn't amazing. Don't get me wrong, the game looks good and there are some nice touches, but doesn't blow you away.

Yet to decide, so far it's a 7/10 and I intend on playing it some more yet... controls are a bit clunky for me when moving my team around during a firefight.

The FOV is terrible and this is the first time that a game has made me nauseas. The textures are bad when you get close-up - especially trees and rocks.

what's the friendly AI like?

Aside from the respawn rambo syndrome.

LOL

So did they decide to skip the beta testing on this one then?

Yeh FOV is bad and the screenshots that we have been seeing must have been through touch up, because I am maxing out every setting possible at 1680 x 1050 at roughly 100fps and it could look a lot better to be honest.

If you want a solid framerate and fluid action, I suppose it's not too demanding for lower spec PC's, but to be honest everyone on here is pretty much wanting/should be expecting lots of eye candy with the rigs that we run :)

Do you seriously believe Arma 2 will be massively improved by any subsequent patches?

The game has been out months now, nothing significant is going to happen. Its just the way the game is.

It already has, so why would it stop.
Same happened for A1.

Game studios are damned if they do use amazing gfx that our rigs struggle with, and damned if they don't.

People seem to get outraged whatever the outcome.

The level of anger in this thread is fascinating.

Had a quick crack at this tonight, definitely expected more from it, I'm sure I'll get into it with a proper play through tommorow,

Runs great though as you'd expect at around 60FPS constant almost, maxed out with full AA/AF 1920x1200. So it's definitely well optimised.

60 degree FoV? I know form experience that that makes me feel a bit ill.

Edit: oh, wait its actually 76 degrees. Hmm. Might still look a little odd on widescreen, no?

Just found myself running round not really sure what I'm doing with dodgy AI spread all over the place not even trying to be tactful, meh a bit let down if I'm honest.

No people just like scaling engine, ie setting to make it look gorgeous if you have a decent pc, settings to make it look good and an ordinary pc, and settings to make it playable on a sub par pc.

like a lot of the vale games currently are.

Indeed looks very average at best.
