Aion Online?

Its worth trying it for yourself, but at the same time if you dont like WaR, AoC, WoW (where most of the world disagrees with you here) then maybe you should try something light hearted like Champions Online.

Eve online is not exactly the most exciting game either, it may not force you to level but it does force you to mine, and that in itself is just as monotonous!

I like Aion I think it has huge potential, the grind is quite tough going (I'm used to WoW and maybe a tad burnt out) but I'm sticking with it to see what the end game is like, you cant really judge a MMO too much until you get at least half way through the levelling and I'm not there yet.

Hype is just hype, its worthless unless you actually sample the product yourself, so give it a go with an open mind.

lol? My 2003 char doesn't have any mining skills :P

How is Aion online turning out to be? Is it another AoC/Warhammer online?

AoC/Warhammer both let me down, i learnt my lesson with those two duffers..

if you like MMo's you should like Aion, theres tons to do, tons to see and plenty of PvP if that floats your boat.!!

im closing in on lvl 30 and ive spent a fair bit of time flying around the Abyss and i love it, sure i get battered by higher levels but in large battles or kin groups its fantastic.

i havent had to queue to join the gorgos server at all of late which has certainly put a smile on my Asmo kipper ! ... buy the game, its a keeper!

Hard to tell.

A few friends I know both in real life and from Wow completely love it. I don't though. I have tried to get in to it, but I can't...

I will probably have a few more tries since I have about 25 days left on my account, but so far it's good... but just not my thing.

I really thought it was aweful, i was coming from Lotro which not only had better graphics, but was much more western, there was loads of stuff to do as you leveled up and it was very much about the journey rather than the end game, although there was also some good stuff at the end game, this just felt like a linear grind to level 50 so you can zerg pvp and raid, crap korean game really and the queues are a joke.

Apparently they will bring more servers online later on. They don't want to many because once the start rush has subsided and numbers balance out they don't want the population to be low on the servers.

But I do keep hearing that the wait times in "internet rush hours" are insane at times.

To be fair, the queues have massively dropped down in the last 4 days. I havent had to wait longer than around half an hour in the last 4 days and last night I was able to log on (on a saturday night) with just a 3-4 minute wait.

LoTRO is a great PvE game, probably my favourite PvE MMO. However, I generally like to play MMOs for the PvP and LoTRO PvP was just ..well..crap. A pity really because the licence certainly could have made for a fantastic PvP MMO, if only they had allowed you to play as the evil faction properly and really expanded on the whole war and conflict side of things. So for the PvP'er in me , Aion comes closest to the wonderful PvP I had in Daoc all those years ago :)

I brought the game but have managed about 3 hours total, the queues have topped 2 hours on my server every night since launch and thats the only time i normally get to play my games, really regret buying it now!

You're still getting 2 hour queues in the evenings? Even in the last couple of days? Which server are you on?..I'm guessing Spatalos?

Have you considered just rolling on a different server instead? Like I say, our server has barely had a queue at all now for a few days, perhaps roll on one of the other servers rather than sitting in a queue?

I've got a fair few friends from lotro rolling on the server for the great pvp it will apparently have, so i want to at least play with them, not that i actually matters any more, ive uninstalled the worthless hunk of junk and cancelled my account, nightmare launch, aweful customer service, not a great game either in all honesty. I also dont see why they couldnt just make more channels for the launch, what is the point in having channels otherwise? When the lotro expansion launched there were literally several thousand people all in one zone, yes it lagged like a bitch and it was practically unplayable because there were 5 times more people than mobs (and i played on a quiet server!) but at least it was playable, i still got to explore, gather the quests e.t.c. i cant do anything here and its completely a waste of my money

Surely, as they are your friends, they wouldnt mind rolling on another server with you so that they can play with their friend and vice versa? I mean I'm guessing they are suffering the same queues as you and getting equally frustrated, so it would surely be a good move for everyone involved. I'd move server to play with a friend.

but they are all in a well establised guild which is rolling there due to the high density of other well established/competitive guilds

Theres a pretty high density of other well established and competitive guilds on all servers, as an example for you... Spatalos has a total of 1081 guilds (both sides combined).

Gorgos has 1373 guilds (both sides combined), so almost 300 more guilds.
Castor has 1613 guilds (both sides combined), so almost 600 more guilds.

Always options, I'm sure your friends arent going to want to sit in queues either. Not really much sense in sitting in a queue when you all could just be on a different server and not have to tolerate the queues

But many of the guilds would just be joke guilds or have 5 people in them e.t.c. Spatalos has more 'hardcore' guilds to compete with, but still the game beyond the queue isnt great, all im expected to do is grind to level 50, which i dont have the stomach for it.

Well the only way to know that would be to actually know all the guilds on Spatalos and all the guilds on all the other servers. Sadly I dont, so I'm afraid I cant help you with the validity of your statement in that regard.

I'm not sure you have played enough to really form a strong opinion on how great or not great the game is. You said in your post on the last page that you had only played for 3 hours in total. That will mean that you havent even reached level 10 and picked a class yet...thats far too early to accurately judge an MMO.

3 Hours in any MMO is simply not enough. Hell if I had to judge even LoTRO on the first 3 hours of play I would have said, this is just WoW but with a different skin. I would have been wrong of course, but thats what I would have said after 3 hours of play.

Your choice though..but I cant help wondering if maybe you set out in your head to not like Aion before you even bought it and have just become a self fulfilling prophecy.

When i spend £70 on something i dont set out not to like it, but the pathetic launch followed by negative feedback from many friends much of which has been witnessed by me in terms of gameplay style, xp ratio e.t.c.

Surely though, given that you were going to spend £70 on something.. you must have at least done a little research on the item in question? You must surely of known what style of MMO it was?? Or are you generally in the habit of splashing out £70 on something without first reading up on it?
