Better graphics on PC or Xbox 360?

You could make a game on a PC for a PC that no current PC can run at an acceptable frame rate.

They must have had to test the game code on the PC it was created on, therefore this is incorrect.

Computers that are available to the public or on a certain budget of say £1000 are a different matter. But these factors were not asked in the thread title

Maybe if the question was, can the average (define average?) home pc play games faster than a 360 or PS3 it would give different answers

What I still dont get is how some people still think that 'HD' on a television is better than PC monitor resolutions.

They'd test on the supplied development kits, which as far as i'm aware have the same hardware as a proper 360, or as close as possible to it in pre release dev kits.

edit - nvm, didn't read quoted post properly, assumed the reply was directed at someone else

imho PCs edge it in the end.

Costs :-

Console - £200
HDTV - £300-500
10 games (who buys a console without games?) - £350-450

Total cost - £850 - £1,150

PC

Decent pc - £500
Monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers - £300 (ish)
10 games - £250-£350

Total cost - £1,050-£1,150

Why include 10 games? Well you have to remember that consoles are sold at a loss. PCs arnt. To compair the 2 is quite silly IMHO. The opposite is true for games. Console games have to have the cost of development etc with a licence fee. This is were Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony make their money. PCs are free to make games for, so games dont have to include this cost, hence they are cheaper.

You could argue to the hills and back about the costs of PC gaming, but IMHO its worth it or I would have stopped.

BTW, I do have a 360 and its collecting dust. Its not just PC thats stagnating. Console games are getting stale too. I look and look for decent games on all consoles and I rarely find them. Just FPS, JRPG, Sports game #X or some gimmic game based on an overpriced plastic controller.

Im glad to see the rise in Steam/Xbox arcade with indy games on there. This may save gaming (in general), because its dieing IMHO.

Is this thread a joke? PC has much better image quality, I played GRID on the 360/HDTV and on PC all MAX 8XAA 1920x1200 and its soo much more visually better on the PC.
Same with Resident Evil 5 + more

Right... But what if I bought an Xbox with two games and used my PC monitor? :p Not fueling, merely pointing out a rather gaping hole in your logic.

I'm not trying to stoke the fire, but the fact is, I love gaming on my PC, I love gaming on my Xbox, I love gaming on my PS3 and I love gaming on my Wii... Some people prefer one, I love all, and there is no point arguing about which is best as it's unquantifiable, it's impossible to prove. I know the thread started asking about graphics, but we've moved away from that somewhat.

£300 for monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers? ... monitor £100-150, mouse + KB £35, speakers £50ish ...
That is about £200ish not £300
Decent PC can be had for less than £500 if you are smart about it

Besides, even if you use your costs, a PC can let you do other things that an XBox cannot.

Well the thing is, that is the only way you can really compare costs, because as soon as you assume you already own any equipment for either system, it all becomes a massive **** fest of 'what if', 'depends on' and 'only when'...

It's really not something that can ever be compared directly though, because of such things as the way you use them - some people will just flat out prefer gaming on the sofa and having mates round for 4 player football, with a few beers. Others will appreciate the fact they can do some photo editing and net browsing on their gaming machine and can engage in some really serious online league play etc. These sort of things can be worth more to someone than any objective material cost you can assign to something.

Thats not really poking a hole, that just being pedantic for the sake of it ;)

I was just giving general examples of buying the whole kit required for gaming on a PC or console, since there was a price compairson earlier on in the thread and IMHO it was not taking everything into account.

I totally agree with you. I love gaming too.
The 'fanboi'-ism comes from the playground where you would try to defend your purchase because you didnt want to admit your mistake in getting the wrong console.

Yeah, I'm always to delighted to see such a well reasoned argument posted on these forums.

I've always held the belief that anyone that is lacking in a competent knowledge of computer hardware doesn't deserve to be alive... :o

Who cares anyway. Graphics means nothing. Street fighter 2 turbo, maro kart, super tennis and donkey kong country are sucking up all my gaming time at the moment.

I might try and get a PS1 with GTA at a carboot the next time i go. GTA (1) is one of the best games, even though the graphic does look gash.

To me good gameplay lasts xxx hours
Good graphics lasts usually an hour max
