Bladeless fans: The future of air cooling?

If they are quieter than traditional fans, then I think they could be revoloutionary, but power use and dust build up on the air intakes could be an issue. Nice and child friendly.

As said they have a fan in the bottom and also the reviews say they are much noisier than a normal fan as well as not pushing as much air.

Failure.

So in short typical marketing hype/snake oil which should trigger BS-filter of everyone thinking logically.

Yep. Reinvent something which never needed fixing.

Okay, give it years and years of development and it might become quieter and push as much air (and cheaper, they are £199 for gods sake!) so they "might" be the future.

As a first product, this fails. If you find enough mugs to convince though at £199....................

Might suck now, but give them time. This isn't the first product in history that people have questioned the value of pursuing, and no doubt won't be the last.

If we gave up on new ideas straight away just because what we have now does it better then civilization wouldn't have got very far.

It's NOT new tech.

A vast number of industrial devices use this venturi effect to increase flow using an initial high speed input.

And no it won't replace "bladed" fans. They can't create much pressure, just flow.

It IS a bladed fan.

It uses a hidden impeller out of view and out of the main airflow path. That then produces "high" pressure air which is directed out in a ring shape around the circular "fan" section.

Through fairly well known principles the high speed air drops in pressure as it exits but pulls along even more air from the environment as it does so, thus generating flow which didn't pass through the fan at all.

Interesting mind you.

I don't know why we have two threads on this.

No this is bog standard physics type fans.

Small high pressure fan generates high pressure at the base, lets it out all round the ring and as the high pressure air jets out it drags air from the surroundings with it.

The high pressure jet slows down but the overall mass of air that is moving is boosted.
