Need tips on how to stay awake all night

I used to work nights, and my work backpack contained:

PSP
iPod + all new podcasts
Books
Magazines
Snacks

Just break up your shift, thats what I did when work was slow, hour on PSP, hour of book hour of magazines - just means your mind is constantly changing about and you don't get too bored.

I find once you get past about 3am the rest of the night is easy, thats the time when I'm most tired if i'm staying awake, so fight it until then, then afterwards its easy!

Do something that keeps you engaged, I think watching tv/browsing internet/reading would be the opposite of this. Maybe do a kind of puzzle? :D Or take a pic of Charlie Boorman to stare at and think of all the different ways you could smite his little face.

The day before you start stay up late, have some beers, and lie in until noon.

Then don't eat anything until 8pm at night (assuming you didn't eat anything after 2am the night before). Make it a good feed, you should be starving by now.

You'll be tired the first night as you've been up all day, but the next night should be pretty good.

Having worked shifts for many years:

Decent coffee
Home education (nothing better than getting paid to learn)
Do you have use of the hotel gym during the night?

If you have time, dont eat 12 hours before, then eat as if you are having breakfast. This causes your body clock to reset itself so you avoid lag.

Apparently, it's a tried and tested method which I am yet to try.

having worked nights before (in a casino), i think the fact that you are working nights will halp you to stay awake, i don't recall having any problems when i first started.

After uni 5 years ago I was unemployed. I simply played Soldier of Fortune 2 from 6pm to 6am straight. Used to make my dad really angry when he used to get up for work and I would be just going to bed after gaming. I still don't understand why this angered hims much. Could he not understand that I was trying to be world number 1?

Parents will not effect you I suspect so I recommend SOF2!

Done it, it works, I'd suggest aim for 16hrs though just to be sure.

Don't do what I did though and get up late, miss breakfast and not eat until 10am - now I never feel like going bed until 1am :)

go do something to keep your mind busy. crossowrds or go sort problems out or go help clean rooms. stimulation is key.

i'm off the other opinion - i'd LOVE to sleep at night. haven't had a good nights kip in over a year lol.

I don't think turning up to my first night on the job equipped with pillow+teddy bear will make a very good impression. :p

LOL :D

I recently was awake from 7am till 9am and was busy through most of it and was fine. Soon as I got home though I stopped doing anything and zonked out till 3 in the afternoon.
