Do something that keeps you engaged, I think watching tv/browsing internet/reading would be the opposite of this. Maybe do a kind of puzzle?Or take a pic of Charlie Boorman to stare at and think of all the different ways you could smite his little face.

If you have time, dont eat 12 hours before, then eat as if you are having breakfast. This causes your body clock to reset itself so you avoid lag.
Apparently, it's a tried and tested method which I am yet to try.
I don't think turning up to my first night on the job equipped with pillow+teddy bear will make a very good impression.![]()
