I had a go at some kid in the street

Again, connecting disorder to serious crime.

Well I am extrapolating. It all starts from something small, like disorder and anti-social behaviour and slowly escalates on the back of apathy and indifference. Some people tend to slide into a criminal spiral while other just get over it as they grow.

I strongly believe that if people were reasoned with and dealt with when they started 'behaving badly' you would have far fewer cases of serious criminals.

I am critical of the stance that 'if it doesn't bother me I don't do anything about it'. It doesn't have to reach a stage where it actually bothers someone for them to do something about it as in those cases the individual can actually do very little.

Because no one does it anymore. no one tells anyone off. Age is immaterial. The cheeky ****** from southmead who threatened to slash that womans throat in that panorama documentary was about the same age give or take.

Depends who you hang around with, if scummers ever come around here no one puts up with their crap.

Deeply humiliate him somehow, preferably in front of his peers, next time it happens.

Same goes for people who spit on the pavement, or pick their nose and wipe it on walls and seats on busses, and generally disrespect other people and their property.

Only problem i have is the none of you would tell me to pick up the can i drop, but you would to a kid.

Yea massive congrats about standing up to a kid???????????

Pick up your damn fishfingers man, stop dropping them everywhere. The bin is there for a reason! See, easy.

I hate people that litter though, it shows disrespect to the area you live in / are passing through.

Answer to `Chimerical`.

Serious crime is born from lesser evils.

Its not though. That quote I posted said it wasn't, in a link supposedly proving the validity of the "Broken Windows" theory.

Littering, underage smoking/drinking, highway speeding, swearing in public, vandalism/graffiti, etc do not lead to serious crimes.

I used to drink underage and litter at school. I'd love to know how that was supposed to lead me on towards theft.

I strongly believe that if people were reasoned with and dealt with when they started 'behaving badly' you would have far fewer cases of serious criminals.

I still disagree. I believe that overreacting to non-serious acts will be counter productive. I also "believe" in the obvious thing that when young people grow up, they naturally give up most of these childish acts and become the same boring, conformist adults that everyone else is.

OP still judges all kids as potential trouble and returns to keyboard for another warrior session. Or am I missing something.

Get a grip for gods sake. Ever think that Part of the reason kids are the way they are nowadays is because some adults really don't know how to communicate with them without having a go at them.

Brilliant point, very ironic that it is sometimes the people of the past when all was well who can not bring up kids properly, and the kids get all of the blame.

Like you say the kid willingly picked up the can with out any fuss and he is still stereotyped because he did something which nearly everyone has done before.

Very annoying for the kids who actually do have respect and follow the rules.

I would have pushed him to the floor then rubbed his nose in the can, abit like when your pet dog pee's on the carpet and you need to show him when hes wrong.

I have never littered. I was raised by my parents to put my litter in a bin, or carry it with me when there isn't one around.

Kudos to the OP.

I dont belive this.

Im sure everyone has dropped something in their lives.
