Which W7 Edition do you buy?

I am still hoping I'll get Pro via MSDN before release day. That would be very sweet.

Only 10 days however, and the support guy said they were waiting for Microsoft to do something with it.

Pre-order Pro for the new PC

Also have to disagree with Faustus - been using Win 7 since ver 7068 and has about 80 apps running from it including a few photo libraries and music libraries of a couple of 100 Mb each and Win 7 is definitely way faster and better at coping than vista ever was

It's no good disagreeing with me, read the link in my post 48 and argue it with them. I found very similar results running W7 especially since Vista SP2 which has now turned what was a very good OS into an incredibly stable and fast OS. Either way Vista or W7 ain't going to trouble my Quadcore PC with its 3 gig of RAM

2x Home Premium Full Retail @ £45 each (one for future HTPC and a spare copy for anything else)

1x Professional Full Retail @ £80 (for main gaming desktop) as I would like the Virtual XP mode available to run some older business programs :)

I picked up the student discounted Win 7 pro upgrade 64bit for just £30, a bargin i think?

I read around a bit but i still can't quite work out if i can install this onto a brand new harddrive? I'm currently on win XP, it says i need to do a custom installation (which is pretty much a fresh install?).
Also it's a download (not paying £8 for a dvd :O), so i'll need to put it onto a USB pen? Never installed windows from one before, any issues?
Also could i burn a DVD with the download file on to install 'normally'.

Didn't want to make yet another windows 7 thread.

I've decided to bite the bullet and got Home Premium. Pro and Ultimate don't offer me anything extra that I need.

Haven't installed yet, not had the time to do so but will get around to it soon. My current Vista install is running sweet so it's a case of installing 7 just to see what all the fuss is about. :p

I'd stick it on my test mule rig but the wife is using it for some work stuff for the next week or so and has warned me not to go anywhere near it with Seven.:D

Windows 7 ultimate. Can I install just over Vista 64 ?

To be honest, the best plan is to do a completely fresh install. Personally I would not install over the top of my current OS with an upgrade installation.

Thanks. I'll do it tomorrow. Missus is away visiting outlaws till ten, so I'll bang out some COD4 without her whining at me.

P.S. Forgot to mention, it's retail.
