The New Stargate Universe Thread

I'm speculating that the small space ship was the bad guys in SGU who we'll find out more about later. Always have good bad guys in Stargate franchises - Go'uld, Wraith, Ori - and Destiny has taken a hell of a beating from someone/something that's a match for erm ... ancient Ancient technology.

Also, there's still the issue of those locked planets and the two SG bods who went off there, which coincided with that ship spying on Destiny. Could it be that the bad guys and Destiny's AI came up with a truce that has now been violated by two humans going to a locked planet?

As far as I know there will be no big bad guy for at least the first season anyways.

i saw this posted on another forum and couldnt help but laugh because its pretty much the show for the first few episodes.

In next week's episode, they run out of toilet paper. There is general panic until the ship drops out of FTL close to a toiler-paper planet.

Drama! Excitement! Toilet-Paper!

the ship seems to be the new rodney mckay though , something bad is going to happen and then 5mins from the end of the episode out pops the rodney to fix everything just like in atlantis

Its started a little slow, but i have faith that it will turn into a very good series. I am enjoying and the characters all seem decent.

Definitely slow, but SG1 and Atlantis have years of maturity behind them. I was re-watching Atlantis on Sky2 ? recently and god the 1st series was weak. the characters so bland and unsure of themselves.

Im not sure the direction this show can go. It can never be as light-hearted as SG1 or Atlantis was sometimes. Im sure they will try it but. They have set the mood very early on that these people are shipwrecked and are literally fighting for their survival !! thats a lot moodier than anything previous.

Again with the nature of the show they are always going forward in space and the Stargates will come to them effectively. Again another major change in the whole idea that they are completely at the mercy of the ship and its predetermined course and not a "where shall we dial today" kinda thing as before. That severely limits the reoccurring themes you can have with enemy civilisations etc etc.

I think it will spend the whole first series fixing the ship then unfortunately be cancelled by the big wigs. I do hope im wrong cause its proving the weekly sci-fi fix and i do like it.

Something "good" has to happen soon, the characters are decent although most of them fit into the "I hope you get killed horrifically" category for me, which isn't a bad thing haha! Its very much character driven more than any other series before it much more like BSG. Needs more "pew pew" and less emo air-force personnel nonsense, but again like Atlantis- its a big ship to explore im sure they can dig up some nice Ancient technology and make up some nice SG Lore to make all that happen!?

I live in hope - jesus im a geek.

I've liked what I've seen so far even though I never watched any of the other Stargate series and thought the original film was average. One thing that's stood out for me is the music score, love that.

Can't help thinking we'll see the Borg at some point though :p

I think the show is running just fine at the moment, and I'm glad they have'nt added the same old cliche elements like add an alien to the team and introduce an enemy straight away. It would make the show a total clone so I'm glad their taking a different approach, and spending a bit more money on the set designs.

The film was average, the series is great though (SG1) ;)

Bit of a crap episode last night I thought - solution was so obvious I thought that they wouldn't dare do what they did. Not sure what to make of the ending though - seems a bit unfair to accuse Rush in front of everyone.

I wonder how many of us have been through similar stuff to what Eli went through when Chloe went off with the other guy for a last screw before dying. I certainly have :( I will now hate Chloe for the rest of SGU.

I actually rather enjoyed last nights episode, it still had some slow moments and the ending was a bit of a foregone conclusion, but it was good to see RC's character starting to react in a slightly more human manner. It was also reassuring that there was no use of the comm stones in this episode, maybe they'll fade out of use or get damaged soon?

I'm hoping they gain control of the Destiny soon (though I suspect they may not) as it would give the story some more options and it won't always be a race against time to get back to it before the end of the episode.
I can't put my finger on it but it 'felt' a bit more like a Stargate series...

Edit: Two opposing views posted at exactly the same time :D

I though last nights episode was rather good, this new series is a lot darker that other Stargate series. However, i am a bit confused at the mo for me that episode asked more questions than it answered.

Anoter boring episode, not finding the acting particularly good, the story was predictable and boring as ever.

They seemed to miss a crucial thing I would have thought, lets assume they found a planet that could be survivable, wouldn't they need, I dunno, more women, to have kids and live on, as opposed to sitting and all waiting to die.

The bird shagging the pilot out of the blue with, if I recall, no signs they were together before then made entirely no sense, wouldn't they have been open about it before. From the first day they've had near death situations. Just felt cheap and just a wind up Eli device, rather than a realistic storyline. As much of the show seems, things change and characters do 100% turnarounds when it suits the episode. For all the "soap opera" moments, we've still seen very little about the characters who seemingly have real stories.

Ok the main military guy has a wife, who he might not see again....... what a fantastic story to tell us for so long. Now the guy who was in lockup when the attack began, and the chinese bird eluded to his big problems, other than purposefully sounding creepy in almost everything he says, they'd not explored any "real" characters so far.

So, storys are weak and incredibly predictable, characters are shallow as anything, non of the possibly interesting characters are being explored, but we're bombarded by the fact the youngish woman, has a mother, the captain, has a wife, Eli, has a mum........ wooo, how god damned exciting.

The fact they've really not done a proper episode of just exploring the ship yet, seems like madness. They haven't done a proper search, have made surprisingly little attemp to access more control of the ship beyond standing at the same console all day long.

Now just waiting for the predictable ep where they are under attack or something and suddenly fall over the "bridge" and find themselves in full control of guns et all.

Is that stupid blurb going to be at the beginning of every episode? I know I have a bad memory but how difficult it is to remember that they are stranded on an ancient Alteran ship with no way home week in week out.
