The New Stargate Universe Thread

Yeah they are failing badly, its disappointing how the show is turning out, they need something interesting to happen. Next episode will probably be a hunt for toothpaste.
 
Its a bit of a let down for me , which the idea is good and robert carlise is a good actor..

it seems to .. ..i think soppy is the word?

every 5 minutes they seem to have the time to cry a lot or reveal there "dark past" etc etc

this idea can work but only when you identify with the characters , as of yet we dont so having them doing some sob story just isnt fun for me especialy concidering some of the people are ment to be elite special forces ...

can someone in this show not be an emotional train wreck?

also good call simonc i quite agree the episodes so far seem to big up something realy small and simple, and when they win..which they always do ... everyone whoops and cheers and sad/happy/soppy music is played like its an episode of the X-factor

sigh.. im ranting i know but i find it a shame when people kill a series off like this..

the last time i saw something that killed off a good series like this was .... gulp....

I like the idea of it, I'll keep watching it mainly because I've watched every episode of SG-1 and Atlantis a few times! The only problem is that it's reallllly slow to get the plot going. If Rodney McKay was on that ship they would have all systems online already!
 
I agree with all the comments so far but I think the story hasn't even begun yet.

The less leading characters are being explored first.

However, its the same as Atlantis I never knew what to expected until about the 10th episode.

Think I will stick it out as its bound to open up a little more.
 
It's so boring at the moment. Every week is the same formula and involves a crisis that they have to overcome.

It needs some sort of back plot, mystery or something to keep the audience thinking. Something like when the pod fired away from the ship in an earlier episode and people were speculating that perhaps someone or something was on board. There's no sense of mystery, it's all very linear and not that gripping.

It has potential though. I'll keep watching it.
 
I'm a big Stargate fan and I must say I am very disappointed with the series so far. None of the characters stand out and nothing seems to happen. Stargate meets BSG and fails. The Pilot was far too long for what happened and the last double episode didn't throw any suprises.

Apart from the obvious why have they made the Destiny so low tech? It's supposed to be the most important thing since discovering the Stargate. Strange when they have Atlantis.

Here's hoping it gets better.

The Destiny predates Atlantis so the tech isn't going to be as advanced as that found in Atlantis.

I think the high point so far has definitely been Light but Air Part 3 and Darkness were very slow. The show is a quarter way through its first season and i think at the moment its still gaining momentum.

As they said, it is vastly older than the rest of the tech they have found.

The important things will probably be the information it has recorded, discoveries it has made and so on.
 
Just read this show is going on a break until spring sometime after the tenth episode :(

Why oh why do they do this. May as well just make two separate seasons and be done with it.

I know this has been common practice with Stargate for some time but it just looks like so long on paper especially considering that they just wrapped principle photography on the show there the other day.
 
They do it with a lot of shows in America, he reason being they show xmas shows and specials over the holiday period then resume with the normal shows.

Ha, the Mrs and I were saying the same thing. Everyone on SG:U is a totally useless whiner, how any of them ever ended up working on the Stargate program is a mystery, they must have really lowered the standards of the entrance exam!

If SG1 had ended up on that ship they'd have been home in time for tea.

Daniel would have deciphered all the computer, Carter would have figured out how to bypass something or other to let them dial the gate, Teal'c would have moved something heavy and O'Neill would have cracked wise as they stepped back through the gate home. Job done.
 
To be honest I'm bordering on giving up on this.

It is absolutely boring and I'm only watching in the hope that something good is going to happen.

Rush is the worst character in the show for me and his totally unbalanced approach to being good guy / bad guy / saviour just does'nt feel right.

Damn shame as well because I think Carlisle could add a lot to the show.

The constant search for basics is becoming tedious, it will be bog roll to find next episode and someone will find reason to moan about the fact that it isn't Andrex when they do find it.

Its a Sci-Fi show with its roots set in exploration and kicking alien bum. They cant even explore the ship because it trashed.

Hopefully very soon they park up at planet and by some miracle find about 10 ZPM's and strap em to the ship, oh and hopefully McKay might laid next to em as well to give them a kick up the anus.

/rant.

lol likewise. I went over to Gateworld just to check I hadn't missed an episode.

Well I'm giving the show one more episode before I give up wasting my time. The same can be said for Flash Boreward, which I find too slow moving. Kinda reminds me of crappy LOST, where everything happens in the last 3mins.

Since I'm ill at home at the moment, I've been watching SG1 from scratch. The difference between the two shows at their start is just staggering.
 
Getting bored with it fast, the characters are just not likable and the atmosphere of the episodes is just oppressive, if they are expecting fatty to be the joke maker of the show then he better start quick cause the dude just stands around telling everyone he 'came up with the idea' when Rush fixes something. I starting to wish the ship crashed into the sun:rolleyes:
