***OFFICAL*** Left 4 Dead Thread!

I had immense problems last night.

First the game crashes, so I cant move and then eventually locks out.

Okay its done this before *I think* (in fact quite a bit recently?), so I Ctrl-Alt-Del out and try to start again, but ooh no, steam just wants to sit there like an insolent child.....so okay the app is having 'an issue' and wants to be restarted, but even though I'm a bit annoyed by this because its been a bit of a pain recently, I can hack it being a pain once in a while.

So I restart steam....and then.. steam starts doing an update........which fails.........twice.......then hangs.... I restart......and it hangs......so I restart  and after about 20 minutes of it just sitting there at 32 percent it jumps to 42 percent and another wait before jumping to 86 percent whereby it speeds up and finishes....okay finally I'm back (or so I think).

So up comes my login (few).. but the password field is empty and can I remember the password..Oh NO! pfft this has been an annoying night with steam.. I run through the reset stuff and steam tells me its sending me a password...but it doesn't...so I wait....send again....nothing...meh

Finally this morning sometime I get 4 password reset requests through and about 19hrs later manage to log in...

oh yeah and to add my team mates sucked so bad on the round it crashed on..one ran off on his own and the others just might as well have been bots.

I had that the other day. Since then I've had loads of trouble with loss and choke. Here's my net_graph 3:

Notice the big gaps about every 10 seconds apart. Everything freezes then jumps ahead. Real PITA

I had the steam install issue also. All I did was wait for it to stop at a % for about 2 mins then kill the update, run it again and it got a bit further then do the same again etc. took about 5 mins to get through but has been no fallout from it

err Im right in thinking the L4D2 demo is released today?? right?

Will be online later tonight o give it a blast if it is :D

NM... found the L4D2 thread

This poor thread has died since the release of the L4D2 demo and that's not right!

So, to spice things up, I'm going to make a confession. On Tuesday night I did a shameful thing. I RQ'd. I take great pride in my ability to play with any number of pathetic arse-munchers, but on Tuesday night I could take it no longer. RQ'ing from a random game means nothing but this, this was a Friends-Only game. I had two people from my friends list in the game and mid-way through the first level, one of the non-friends started moaning non-stop about my name - in broken English - it was like talking to a three year old. Then, for no-reason whatsoever, someone called a vote to kick the only person I knew on my team off. It just sparked off something in my brain and I hit F2 and then quit without a word.

I feel dirty.

Hang your head in shame, you're a disgrace.

:p (I can understand your frustration though)

Have to say that the lack of players last night was a clear indication of the community division created by the release of l4d2.

That said, I think it will get better before it gets worse. I can't see a two-level demo keeping many occupied for long - the real problem is gonna be when it hits November 17th...

Why would people still play the first one when the new one is out though?

There will still be people playing it, probably just not the ocuk regulars.

I've played through both levels of the demo on expert now, quite happy to leave l4d2 until the 17th really...

May try hosting an 8v8 this evening, though I won't be on much after that this weekend as I'm away.

There's no doubt that L4D will probably be abandoned come November 17, but only for the first few weeks while people play with their shiney new toy. I would predict that people would start playing the original along-side the new one after the first few weeks have passed.

Why? I've played L4D1 to death and am happy to never go back to it again once L4D2 comes out.

I'm not sure sure about that - the latter part, I mean. L4D2 is going to have something that people are not going to get bored of quickly - five whole new campaigns of versus goodness. Let's not forget the two new modes - and a whole new set of Survival maps....and 50 more achievements.

By the time people are sated, the original L4D maps will have been ported over by the modders. I hate to say it because L4D has been one of the best games I've played in years, but after November 17th it will slowly fade away.

I was playing L4D last night. Went through the No Mercy campaign really slowly on single player to see all that there is to see. Gonna do that with the other campaigns before L4D2 is released and then do the same with the L4D2 campaigns before starting on the multiplayer.

I'll probably not touch the L4D2 demo again and just wait for the full game.

Edit: Is it not possible to crown the witch with the sniper rifle from far away? I tried it a couple of times with no luck.
