....and then.. steam starts doing an update........which fails.........twice.......then hangs....I restart......and it hangs......so I restart
and after about 20 minutes of it just sitting there at 32 percent it jumps to 42 percent and another wait before jumping to 86 percent whereby it speeds up and finishes....
This poor thread has died since the release of the L4D2 demo and that's not right!
So, to spice things up, I'm going to make a confession. On Tuesday night I did a shameful thing. I RQ'd. I take great pride in my ability to play with any number of pathetic arse-munchers, but on Tuesday night I could take it no longer. RQ'ing from a random game means nothing but this, this was a Friends-Only game. I had two people from my friends list in the game and mid-way through the first level, one of the non-friends started moaning non-stop about my name - in broken English - it was like talking to a three year old. Then, for no-reason whatsoever, someone called a vote to kick the only person I knew on my team off. It just sparked off something in my brain and I hit F2 and then quit without a word.
I feel dirty.
That said, I think it will get better before it gets worse. I can't see a two-level demo keeping many occupied for long - the real problem is gonna be when it hits November 17th...Have to say that the lack of players last night was a clear indication of the community division created by the release of l4d2.

There's no doubt that L4D will probably be abandoned come November 17, but only for the first few weeks while people play with their shiney new toy. I would predict that people would start playing the original along-side the new one after the first few weeks have passed.
I'm not sure sure about that - the latter part, I mean. L4D2 is going to have something that people are not going to get bored of quickly - five whole new campaigns of versus goodness. Let's not forget the two new modes - and a whole new set of Survival maps....and 50 more achievements. There's no doubt that L4D will probably be abandoned come November 17, but only for the first few weeks while people play with their shiney new toy. Why?I've played L4D1 to death and am happy to never go back to it again once L4D2 comes out.
