The Official Motorola Milestone Thread

THIS IS THE COOLEST THING - i'm not sure if this is on other devices. But you can actually go into the settings, about the phone, and battery. It will show you how much of the battery each and every thing that is running on the phone (or has been running) is using. It will tell you how long ago you unplugged the phone as well. The display uses up the most generally... This way, you can tailor which apps you want to use and you'll know how much each uses.

Wow I like that feature!!! I hope that is a standard thing on the Android 2.0 OS as I would love that on my HTC Hero.

Personally I don't like the look of the phone and i am also a convert to on screen keyboards so don't want or need a physical keyboard. I am gonna be keeping an eye on the SE x10 phone though.

This is comfirmed on 02 in Germany and there are suggestions that Voda are getting there too.
Edit there is a link I found showing it coming to them
I really hope it comes to Voda in the UK so I can get it as a cheap upgrade. Does it normally work that the same networks across Europe have the same handsets? e.g. 02 have iPhone everywhere? I guess they normally do.

For me its between this and the SE Xperia, depending on when that comes out and networks

That's standard on Android anyway.

Here's mine:

Well I must be going blind mrk as I can't find that under settings on the HTC Hero. It just says if the phone is plugged in or not and has a green bar for how much battery charge there is. Does yours also show programs though?

Yes it shows everything, my phone has only been on for a bit so only those listed have been using battery.

i personally think it looks horrendous :-/ - ok after another look its not _too_ bad just not a fan of the keyboard and the little bit what sticks out at the bottem..

I don't think it is great to look at either but the OS, the speed, the screen res/size and features are way more important to me. If you wanna look 'cool' to your mates then pay more money and get an iPhone

Lol theres nothing cool about showing phones off, just i personally like things to perform well and look good. true there is more good than bad, thankfully im happy with my hero and its bruce forsyth chin :P

Bit of info on who, if anyone will sell this thing here
We gave all the UK operators a call to find out exactly whether any of them were planning on stocking the device. O2 told us that it wasn't going to be selling the handset, despite its German wing selling it as the "Milestone". 3 said the same thing - there are no current plans to offer the handset at this time.

T3 spoke to Nicola Shenton, head of handset and device marketing at T-Mobile UK, who told the magazine that the company had tested the phone, but passed it up. We also talked to Orange and Vodafone. Orange told us that it had nothing to announce other than the fact it's selling the Motorola DEXT, and Vodafone promised to call us back and haven't.

From that, we can rule out three of the major five operators. Orange is looking likely, especially given the non-denial when other networks were happy to confirm "no". We'll update you as and when we hear more from Orange or Vodafone.

i was getting really excited about this until i read about the TRAVESTY motorola have committed with the keyboard, so i'm gonna join in with the networks and say "no thanks"

Seen this SIM free for £449.99 from I believe a UK website. Guess that price was to be expected.
Having said that the same place wants £919.99 for a iphone 3GS 32Gb
Yes, I said £919.99!!

Messed about with the Droid in a Verizon store on Friday - was kind of excited to have a look at one. Came away thinking 'meh'
It does everything and probably is an awesome phone - however it just looks boring and seems to act boring, nothing made me think wow. Reading all the features the 2.0 does, just makes me look forward to it on a Hero for instance.
The Droid does have some cool adverts over here at the moment though. End of the day its a Motorola :-(

Tried it out today in Verizon store also and although I didn't have the time to play with it extensively, I did leave with a fairly decent impression of it.

The design is fairly bland in person - although it feels pretty solid, it doesn't give off the aura of a premium priced product.

The keyboard was definitely better than I expected and of a higher quality than most photos suggest. The keys aren't entirely flat and although there's no key spacing, I definitely found it more comfortable and accurate than that of the N97/N97 Mini, if not as nice as the N900 one that I tried at the T5 Nokia Store recently.

General navigation seemed snappy (more so than the afore-mentioned N900, of indetermined firmware version) although the capacitive screen felt a little less responsive than the i8910's.

Would agree that the 'wow-factor' isn't especially high but this seemed more down to the functionality-heavy layout of the OS and lack of superfluous eye-candy.
Wouldn't write it off just yet - Then again the UK operators may have the final word in that decision.

Interesting... so the QWERTY isn't THAT bad? Was there any tactile feel? Did you need to stretch much due to the D-pad?
