OCZ 1TB 3.5" SSD

It's probably along the usual lines of power quality. Wouldn't surprise me if the excuse given is that traditional hard disks introduce more electrical noise on power/data lines, which effects the quality of the power/data going to the audio circuitry of whatever audio card being used...

....the same sort of people who notice differences between expensive optical/coax digital audio cables and cheap ones, and the different a high quality/expensive power lead and a stand for the hifi makes it all sound so much better.

Unfortunately my ears don't appear to be good enough to discern any difference myself. :( :D

You would have thought though that a decent quality sound card would filter it's power before it gets to the chip. I could maybe see a tiny improvement if you were using onboard, but even then there seems to be a small group of capacitors surrounding that most of the time which probably serves the filtering purpose.

RE Noise in recording studios from HDD. My friend is a music producer, and he leaves his PC in another room with long cables into the studio.

That's understandable, the HDD noise could interfere with recording and you don't want any sound getting in the way.

The suggestion was ripping to an SSD gave better quality than a standard HDD. Which is utter crap. Any one claiming they can tell the difference needs to be beaten to death with their own smug, pretentious gittishness.
