New Moon

It's funny, the wife has gone to see this twice (both without me thankfully) and is completely torn - she's very much into film, having done filmmaking and screenwriting degrees, so on a technical side she hates it, but apparently her XX chromosomes dictate that she also loves it. :p Likewise, she thinks the books are awful, yet has read the set twice. She's a weird 'un :D

This is interesting.

It seems that your wife is being drawn to watch the film even though technically she knows it isnt a great film.

Could it be that this is one of the first films in history, where the female of our species are single handedly driving up the sales of this movie?

For what its worth, this film is currently holding the No.1 spot at the USA Box Office, raking in large sums of money. It is actually competing against the sort of numbers expected to be achieved only in the Summer months - an impressive feat considering its Winter release date.

Maybe they are getting their own back for all the guys watching Transformers 2 (which incidentally is the highest-grossing film of 2009 so far).

It appears the way to make money is entirely unashamedly make boy films and girl films, and never the twain shall meet :p

*edit*

My FB status.. :p

Cap'n Richard Lloyd if the two biggest films of 2009 are Transformers 2 and New Moon, will 2010's biggest movie feature giant robots, gratuitous hot girls and helicopters (at sunset, natch) battling angsty sex-deprived teenage vampires and werewolves in a slow-motion fight to the death? Hell, I'd go and see it :-D

I think you might be on to something.

Rather than try and make a film that everybody likes, its easier and more bankable to simply make a movie for a very specific demographic.

PS. I'm male and I thought Transformers2 was one of, if not the, worst film I saw this year. It really was dire. Cartoons that come on daytime television have better storylines than what Transformers2 brought us. I actually felt that GI Joe was more watchable than Transformers2.

some cartoons have epic stories, i often watch the grim adventures of billy and mandy with my 5year old and its totally obvious a lot of the humour is aimed at adults because of some of the retro stuff they shove in.

the drill instructor from full metal jacket is in one episode and the stories make more sense than most hollywood movies and have less plot holes :D

Alice Cullen and Bella Swan. Jelly wrestling. Naked.

I'm there!

:D
Gets the thumbs up from me
:D

Sunama - surely you didn't go to see Transformers 2 expecting a decent storyline? Only reason I wanted to see it was Megan Fox + giant robots bashing the crap out of each other :D

Went to see this last night with 2 friends..... First hour was awful, was bored crapless!

Second half of the film picked up a fair bit and was perfectly watchable...

Very fast paced....much faster than twilight and much faster than how long scenes drag out in the book! Just action and heartache and amazingness!
Was dragged along to see this with my wife tonight (not even any of her girly friends wanted to watch it!) and agree with PinkFloyd that it was slow to get going. Spent far too long with her at school and there was some weird stuff with her getting on some random motorbike. I know they were trying to stay true to the book though.

Once the action started however it was acceptable viewing. Won't be rushing out to watch it again but thought it got better as it went on.

Not really. Go read the Transformers 2 thread and see how many people are fapping over Megan Fox (not that I'm disagreeing with them) to justify the movie but to then suggest that the same justifications can't be applied to New Moon is a little off.

*round of applause*

Edward Cullen :o

The boys are hot too.

Went to see the film last night, which was a joy in itself as there has been **** all to see at the cinema recently. :)

I really liked it, it's not trying to be a cinematic masterpiece at all and as an adaptation of the book its obviously done really well as proved by box office ratings.

It's a hit with its target audience which isn't you, you or you *points* :p so is an overall success.

JJ - I only seem to like Edward Cullen though and not R-Patz and he DOES have a shoe head.

Taylor Lautner though - wow good work!

:D

I went last night mainly becuase I wanted to see for myself if it was 'all that'

For the target audience I will agree it's perfect. When I say that I mean you take a weak story, bad script, appalling acting and throw in some half naked guys and you have a hit!

I did enjoy Volturi part as it was a welcome break from the Edward/Bella/Jacob scenes. The scenes involving the love triangle were slow and awkward imho. Far too much screen time was dedicated to showcasing Taylor Lautner's 6 Pack or spent hammering home how sad Bella/Edward are. I don't think Patterson can do any other pose besides standing stratig with his head titled while looking sad/confused.

What's with Bella almost having an orgasm every time she kisses Edward?

I can't blame the film entirely for my lack of enjoyment. The numerous teenage girls who wanted to talk, text and giggle throughout the whole showing did contribute.

4/10 is the best I can give it. The CGI wasn't too bad, the action (when it happened) was OK and overall I didn't hate it.

One last thing.. I can't for the life of me understand why Patterson is so popular. Taylor Lautner while looking like he's been punched in the face knocks the socks off the skinny foot face that is R-Pat.

I got dragged to see this, although the film wasnt really my thing, I must say that I have kind of a thing for short haired female vampires, more specifically, Alice Cullen, hotty :)
