**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

So press H and make them hold position ><

Its a little different for DA:O though when it comes to installing mods. The Dexterity Hotfix i got i had to add files to the My Docs Dragon Age folder in packages/core/override. Any dazip file you run the daupdater thing in the My Docs Dragon Age folder (somewhere) and just drag it in and click install.

I have the Shale bug. Talk to Shale and it teleports you off the map and you can't select anything.

Gah managed to find a save that is not affected. Three hours gameplay lost... :(

This happened to me, but I got my bearings from the map and managed to walk through the walls into the nearest tunnel. I'm not sure if it was more luck than judgement, but it meant I could carry on playng rather than loading an earlier save.

It wasnt even that I had just started to use Shale as a tank and all the abilities were not working. No point in having a tank with no abilities so I went back to the save with Alistair in my party... Just as I arrivied in the dwarf city... :(

Come on Bioware any chance of a fix I say.

Ahh man, my Shale abilities disappeared as well. He's level 15 and now has 3! Useless, but I need him for the Thaig quest to unlock some nice bonus quest treasure.

Forgive the question, but this is a looooooooong ass thread, which I have tried to read some of but can't really find what I'm looking for. With being at work also I can't get what I want off the web.

Can someone give me a quick synopsis of the game. I love RPG's, but never played Baldur's Gate. I loved the Witcher as well as Morrowind and Oblivion to a lesser extent.

Is this similar? Does it have a good storyline to it? I heard there is a group element as well. I missed that from the RPG's mentioned above.

Just a little heads up for people thinking of buying Dragon Age. It's available on Steam with a 25% discount for today (thursday) only.

To briefly answer your question.

If you like RPGs and liked The Witcher and the like then you will love this. It has a great story and and you make a team of four players in your group rather than go it alone. The combat, on medium difficulty at least, is fairly difficult and very tactics based. You will probably die multiple times on certain battles before you find the perfect strategy and this is one thing which I like because winning a battle means so much more this way.

Makes the answer to my above question all the more eagerly anticipated !!!!!!

Right then ... it's similar to Baldurs Gate and NWN in gameplay, but is not based on D&D ruleset so there's a completely different set of playable character roles, skills and spells. It's party based with up to 4 characters at a time from a total of maybe 8 or 9?

Story line - it's the usual good v evil plot but it's really well written and voice acted. There are 4 major quests that need to be completed before going on to the final quest, but these can be done in any order. There are, of course, a shed load of side quests that you can choose to undertake or completely ignore.

Personally, I absolutely love the game. I play it mainly through the tactical view, but have found that I use the 3rd person view more than I thought I would. This is mainly when expoloring as the tactical view has the disadvantage of not showing much that's ahead of you. I'm currently 60 game hours in and am on the 4th quest before moving on to the end quests. This game is a amazing for value for money, particularly if you get the Steam discount.

Mods - there are already a huge amount of mods available through the Bioware Social Website and I'm trying a couple out as we speak, so there's even more scope to the game after your first run.

To sum up ... BUY IT! ;)

Morrigan and Leliana face mods are a must. Make them look a bit more like they did in the trailers for the game (in which Leliana was a bit more attractive and Morrigan was a bit less angry :p).

If you loved The Witcher, then this will be right up your path. Both titles are roughly as long as each other tbh, DA is longer if you choose to go through all the sidequests. Storywise I preferred Witcher as it was less cliche'd.

Witcher pretty much has redundant armour/weaps in it, and DA's 'drops' are pretty much rubbish in all areas unless it's a plot/quest drop. All my good stuff is mostly bought off NPCs.

Cheers for that guys. Sounds great !!!!!

Any good ones?

I'm trying out one that sorts out the Dex based attack for daggers. Apparantly it was supposed to be based 50 50 on Str and Dex, but in game it's purely based on Strength. This change improves the effectiveness of dual dagger wielding Assassins. Of which I am one :D

There's also another that adds a crafting NPC to your camp. It lets you creat anything, so is open to misuse, but I just want to use it to recreate my Starfang sword that disappeared due to the crap DLC bugs.

Can anyone recommend any decent mods to add to the second play through. I think I have found new Morrigan and Leliana face mods as I like the concept art more than the final models. :)

Theres not much major out yet. If you want to mix things up i'd suggest the Dexterity Hotfix that fixes Daggers, makes Shortbows useful and enhances Bow damage/hitchance/critrate across the board. Also works for enemies so makes it harder.

Also theres a Shapeshifter mod that gives more useful forms.

Is it better to get the standard edition of this or the digital deluxe one ?

You get the Blood Dragon armor set with all editions of the game and The Stone Prisoner as well.

With the digital deluxe you get:

Warden’s Keep.
Stone Prisoner.
Band of Fire.
Memory Band.
The Dragon Age soundtrack.
Dragon Age wallpapers.
Blood Dragon Armor

So its whichever version takes your fancy. :D:p
