Is SPECs a bluff?

I don't know about other SPECs systems but I know for a fact that the specs on the roadsworks on the m25 near the m11 does not work they are just yellow poles that's are connected to nothing. I know no one can take the risk of speeding through them which I suppose thet are like this as it costs less for the same effect. I have no problem with specs as I see then as an actual saftey camera unlike gatsos. Anyway just wondered your thoughts guys :)
 
The roadworks on the M6 between J15 and J16 only had the SPECs poles up for ages, then the cameras arrived with the 50 limit.
 
I think the temporary ones on the motorways for road works are generally fakes.

The permanent ones do work, my friend got caught in Notts.
 
I'm not being an idiot. Seriously, people saying 'I dont think they work...' is pretty useless really unless we know WHY you dont think they work, or where you got the information from. It's pretty important really, dont you think?
 
You could have just spelt that out in the first place, but this thread is obviously SPECulation :p

I don't do a lot of motorway travel but from what I have done it's clear that the poles go up, then some cameras at a later date. That to me would indicate they were waiting to get them calibrated/sorted for actual use, or maybe they're waiting for some 'dummy' cameras from a closing set of roadworks somewhere. This is of course, just pure speculation and sticking to the posted limit should be your concern, rather than if the cameras work.

It's always "my friend/uncle/boss/father/cat/budgie got caught" with specs. No one actually says "they" got caught and produce the sp30/50/60 etc to prove it.
 
Can't Imagine them puting up the posts and fake cameras at a cost of thousands not to want to recoup some cost throuh fines.

I have heard that they are just so expensive to run and manage that most of the time they arent switched on, if you can see a red lazer type thing on the lens then I have been told this means its on and can catch you speeding etc
 
i have blatently exceeded the speed limit in specs areas by accident in the past, nothing came through the post.

i beleive its all a bluff, have done so for a long time

see my thread asking if anyone had been ever caught by one. no one, ever. always friends of friends mates girlfriends paretns brother that got caught
 
But what if the real cameras plus the system cost a lot more? Then it would make sence, anyone know where SPECS are controlled from? Is there a central box somewhere or is it all sent back to a traffic centre?
 
On a related note, why do people seem to find it so hard to drive at 50mph? I'm sure the vast majority of cars nowadays have cruise control so why dont they use it instead of speeding up and slowing down all the time at the same time as switching lanes for no reason.

There are plenty of people on Pistonheads that have been caught by SPECS, and why would anybody feel the need to prove to the internet that they got a speeding ticket?
