Is SPECs a bluff?

I'm not asking anyone to speed I was just saying they definatly don't work, as foe sitation unless you take a closer look at one then you ain't going to know for sure I'm not going to start posting pics because of the trouble I cab get in. Basicaly they are just poles . No power or data cabeling :) you don't believe me that's ok, proves it works tho yea?

I don't categorically state that I don't know if specs don't work on roads that I don't drive on, that doesn't mean that they don't work but someone said they though that they don't not work, so who's to not know?

because of some more second hand info? whose to say the guys aunt really got caught etc
Just the same type of stupid second hand info that tells me they don't work.
If you are so confident then go out tonight and do 70 through a whole SPECS section on film and show us.

What trouble could you get in?

second hand? i did it myself

video it? that could be the most stupid post of the year

after ive done that ill video my letter box for 14 days also... or you could grow some nuts and try it yourself

I'm not sure what trouble I can get in and would rather not find out but posting pics up from work in a public forum probably isn't bright :) but either way I know they don't work and I'm not expecting anyone to believe me I just wondered if anyone else knew anything about this :)

Here are my examples and reasonings.

Contraflows: Where a contraflow has been set up for one lane, SPECS can never work in this situation, not least because it can't see my numberplate.

Why not? There was a contraflow on the A38 a while back with SPECs cameras, and each pole had two cameras facing in opposite directions i.e. one for each direction of the contraflow. Why would they not be able to read your numberplate in this situation?

I know someone that recently lost his licence due to SPECS in roadworks. Got caught going one way, then caught coming back the other way. 6 points thank you please (he already had 6).

He now catches the train.

Don't you get double points for speeding through roadworks? I'd google it myself but I'm on my phone.

Edit: looks like I was misinformed.

The stretch of the M6 between Warrington and Wigan has recently seen SPECS cameras installed to enforce the temporary 50mph limit.

Whilst I'm often amazed at how many people sail past me at 70+, these people are often the same ones who brake when they get to each camera.

Add to that, at night, you can see a red ring on each lens of the camera which I assume is to assist with the reading of plates in the dark. This alone suggests they're powered....can;t see all that effort only to not actually have them linked up to anything else.

Whether they're on or not, the fact no-one seems willing to test it suggests they work, doesn't it?

Some motorways have Gatso's, so it could have been one of those. Have you had a NIP?

The red light on the SPECS is infra red, which enables them to read your plate in the dark.

No NIP. I think the lorry alongside me set it off. Was dark and raining and I think it was hidden behind a bridge too.

Roadwork stretch though, so don't assume they're all fakes.

I went through some SPECS on the A34 (I think!) at what of been average speed of atl east 70 (50 limit) and nothing came of it.

Not that I suggest this in the slightest! I did it purely by mistake.
