Scripting, cheating or not?

Isn't Valve's stance on it that scripting is not VAC ban'able, i.e. part of the game, and one that anyone can take advantage of?

Just for the record, I don't use any scripts at all, never have.

If you've got a player that's auto reloading, they're never going to make that mistake that could decide which team wins or looses the round.

Shoot them while they are reloading? (unless u can melee while reloading) If you know what the script will do then you can take advantage of them using it?

A more intelligent player will beat a scripter who relies too much on them when he should be using his brain. Even if its equal skill let the scripter shoot at you - he starts to reload - you shoot him? Thats what i would do.

Not both teams in L4D have guns. ;) And as I said, there's no penalty with the shotgun for firing while reloading, it just cancels the reload and fires. If you've got someone that will always have a shell in their gun, they'll always be able to shoot you.

Have a watch of the youtube video I posted a few posts up for a idea of the advantage it can give.

Play L4D against someone doing it for an entire game and it'll be quickly clear what an advantage it is. ;)

waaaaaaaaah. lol....

Why does it make any difference whether it is a script doing it. How do you even know it is a script. Myself (as a L4D player who isn't ****) reloads whenever I get an opportunity anyway. Would you accuse me of cheating because I tend not to run out of ammo every few seconds because I run into a firefight with only a single shell in my shotty.

Skill > lame reloading script.

right i understand now. Pretty much means he has infinite ammo shotgun i guess.

1. go to a server where reloading script is banned?
2. ask devs to code in a delay where you cant shoot whilst reloading?
3. if its a tourney/clan match agree on no scripting rules before game? Admins or whoever check killcams or equivalent to check for scripting after the game?

As i understand it, Valves stance on scripting is that its absolutely impossible to police it so theres no point in trying.

Pink you are just ignorant. Yes its not hard to reload frequently as you should do when using a shotgun. But if you can't see how its possible to FORGET or be too BUSY to reload you are just plain stupid instead. Having infected coming at you from all sides while your trying to get out of Spitter Goo at the same time as deal with a Hunter on an ally, are you still telling me you wouldn't 'maybe' forget to press R or be too busy trying to do other things? If you are your talking bull**** frankly.

yes.

I also dislike people forcing the 3rd person view in l4d as I've very far back and you can see around every corner and drop :(

One thing i did find funny is the people who recently went on witch hunts in l4d accusing everyone of hacking ran nearly all of these scripts alongside 3rd person view bound to a toggle key.

Found this out when they sent me their demo's showing what they thought where other people hacking :/

Friends list is a lot lighter after that.

Why the need to start calling me ignorant?
No, I have never forgot to reload because I have been busy trying to do something else. I've had times when I have been unable to reload, but in the same instance an autoreload script would have also failed to reload.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying using a relocated script is fine, if I saw someone use one I'd give them some abuse. I'm just baffled by the need for one, I see absolutely zero benefit in a script that effectively presses the reload key for you.

A part of my would like to just lob some insults back at you, but I don't really see the need.

Then you are apparently a god amongst men and should be spending your time healing the sick, curing all diseases and the like.

Anyone who claims they reload all the time and never, ever, ever, forget is talking out there arse.

I agree. It's cheating. Not as serious as an aimbot, but it's still lame for people that aren't that good in the first place.

There have been many a time where i've pushed a boomer, hunter away only to have an unloaded gun. At that moment i always think "i gotta get me a script" but i see sense in the end and do it the professional way :D

I must talk out of my arse aswell then as i cant remember the last time i suffered due to not having reloaded in an fps game when i had the chance to. Some people are just ......... not terrible at l4d?

When you're walking do you ever just completely forget to move a leg and fall over?
When you're drinking do you forget to open your mouth?

Ever thought that it is perfectly possible to just do it by instinct?

In L4D after firing I will always reload if there is no-one else around. If there is something around I'll reload and bash away zombies as required with melee.

It really isn't rocket science. I don't see why you're making such a fuss over me not forgetting to reload

Thank you Anim. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

It's how you're coming across to be fair. ;)

So effectively, your agreeing to the fact that a script is cheating, but saying that your too uberleet pro to have someone using it gain an advantage over you?

Maybe the people you play against are terrible. ;) I certainly not bad at L4D, but I've definitely been caught out not having a gun loaded when I need to save someone else. I'd love to see you in a match against Evil tbh. :p

Jesus apparently you 2 just don't get it. I'm not talking about walking between 2 fights not having reloaded, that would be moronic. I'm talking about sticking 1 extra shell in at times between shooting because you were busy doing something else done because the script makes you reload instantly the moment you can.

I look at cheating to be something that gains an advantage.

Playing against a good player you'll find they won't just forget to reload and will gain absolutely no benefit from an auto reloading script. Playing against someone who doesn't seem to be out of shotgun shells doesn't bother me because I know full well myself the only time I run out of shells is in a relentless horde when melee is being limited (by which point I'd have no doubt switched to melee weapons anyway)

Press reload after each shot?

Am I missing something here

Pretty sure it would be easy for Valve to stop scripting. They allow it because you can make the game yours. If they wanted to ban it they just need to stop reading the autoexec file. It's not an exploit as someone put it.

I use some for L4D for the Spy and Engie. Just so I can switch weapons etc quicker because I can't be assed to press 4, 3 etc. If someone uses scripts to gain an advantage then fine. If they were exploiting by other ways though then no that wouldn't be cool.

Force of habit, i am ALWAYS hitting the R key when in-game, in-fact i have some players complain i re-load too often (when spectating me in matches and the like) and i can say 100% i NEVER forget to re-load. After firing 1 round, if there is nothing else visible for me to take a shot at, i re-load, without thinking, part of how i play.

I spent a while trying to get out of this habit actually..caused too many deaths on counterstrike :(

Well there we have it then. You have just admitted that you would be unable to reload. This could mean losing or winning the game. Also you are wrong. A script never fails to reload, so what is your argument now?
