Ford's still suck

Your lack of erudite reasoning, argument or debate expose a predictable lack of... something.

Perhaps it is open-mindedness, or perspective, interest in discussing the issue, or intellect.

Why would I want a ford?

If i wanted a ford would i not have started a topic called "which ford for £1700" or "spec me a ford".. ?

I have asked for opinions regarding a price on a golf... which i have seen... which looks to be a decent deal.. Not a mondeo or a focus or a fiat.. ITS A GOLF

As for my lack of open-mindedness, perspective or interest in discussing the issue....

I didn't ask for alternatives
I didn't ask for the ford-fanboys to throw a tantrum because i think the current ford line up is pants.

I would however like to thank all the ford fanboys for reminding me why i wouldn't want to be a ford owner..

So I just bought a £1700 quid golf

Viva la Wolfsburg

Don't worry, you'll soon be Mr Prestige in your 1.6 VW

Actually that is what my uber low milage E39 M5 is for.. And i plan to keep it that way by only using my VW for getting back and forward to work in the winter months..

Throwing a bit of a curveball here..
Have you thought about get a Skoda Fabia. I would assume they would make good run arounds (polo engines afaik).

Had a chance of one but they are just too small for me.. Not bad little motors though..

You own one of the best sports saloons on the market, a car renkowned not only for its performance and handling but also its comfort and refinement....but you'd rather spend winter in a £1700 VW Golf?

lolwut?

the wheels are coming off to get professionally refurbished and the bonnet is going away to get some stone chips repaired. So hence the purchase of a runabout for the winter months.

I didn't suggest you should buy one. In an earlier post I quite clearly suggested that as long as the price is the same then it is a personal choice without any obvious downside either way (ie neither is obviously better when money isn't an issue). So learn to read my posts.

In any case I have edited back in the original draft of my last post.

A MkIV Golf is massively better built than a MkI Focus, despite the fact that they both started production in 1998.

By comparison the Focus feels thin and tinny. The Golf oozes far more quality and generally feels like a more refined place to be.

I still have yet to see where this argument comes from. My friend has a MK4 Golf GTI, about ten years old with about 80K on the clock. The dash rattles constantly like an old potting shed in a winter storm. By comparison, my Focus is pretty much rattle free and in much better condition despite being the same age and higher mileage.

Is that really gonna take that long that you'll buy a cheap old hatchback just for the meantime?

You are sending your bonnet away?!

Anyway, pics and details on the M5. I like M5's.

Unlikely claim of M5 ownership triggers inevitable detective hunt.

Just another day in motors.

Conscript - if he has a short commute, a little cheap hatch makes sense so as not to have to use the M5 for lots of short journies. Also, GTis are always likely to have more rattles due to the harder suspension, but I feel that the MkIV Golf feels more solid in terms of tangible parts like door handles (interior and exterior), console buttons, dash plastic quality, window switches, indicators, etc.

Not at all. I just want some M5 info, because the M5 is probably my all time favourite car as most of this forum well knows.

FWIW I find it unreasonable to dispute that the perceived quality on a Golf is higher than that of a Focus - it is.
