how would you feel if you were the bloke in the middle seat?

What about someone really tall? Someone 6'8" weighing 16 stone would then be charged more...

Yes, but the average person isnt 6'8" I have had a really tall guy behind me before on the plane and his knees were sticking in the back of my seat. Almost as annoying as a fat person spilling into my seat that was next to me

Fat people pay extra for 2 seats
Tall people pay extra for seats with more legroom

Thinking about it my idea would be that fair on others on the plane. E.g. you get a 30stone guy who is rich and just pay for all his excess weight...back to the drawing board

Did anyone else read the title as

how would you feel if you were the bloke in the middle east? :o

Yes ;)

Re fatty, I do think it is a serious H&S issue to be blocking the aisle like that and the airline should have policies in place to prevent this from happening. While it might upset or offend fat people, H&S has to be paramount.

Do you work for ryanair?

Fat people having to pay I can understand, but tall people? They normally do pay extra for the legroom anyway, but I think there should be a certain number of seats available (say 6) at the same price as normal seats with slightly more legroom for people over say 6'4/6'5 ish. Just because the law only accomodates for your short-ass genes doesn't mean everyone else should be affected.

There are. They are usually the seats positioned next to the emergency exits. You just need to turn up for check-in early to ensure you get one - oh and as long as your comfortable with the responsibility of opening the door should anything happen!

I'd have to complain if I was sat next to him. Whilst I empathisise with his condition, imo it is a health & saftey risk. He should at the very least pay for 2 seats, if board at all.

Thats the thing 'everyone else' is not 7'

If planes were made for 500 7' people they would need to be a lot bigger, more expensive and more expensive to run. Which is why if you are out of the 'average' (around 12stone, 6') population then you should pay more

This is almost as pathetic and idiotic as your "I'm not a thief, but I am really" thread.

If you were not so average and were short then planes could be smaller and cheaper to run so YOU should pay more!

Enough legroom seats exist on planes by law (emergency exits) to facility anyone who is tall, no plane has facilities in a single seat to accommodate the man illustrated by the news article.

I'm 6 foot, 18 stone and can more than comfortably take a seat in any aircraft. There is no reason I should pay more in the same vein that any 4 foot midgets who weigh 25% of me should pay less.

Maybe 4 foot midgets should double up and share a seat for half price travel ;)

Wait, someone is taller / bigger built (not fat) than the average person and should pay more?

Your posts today have made me a sad panda.

Are we going to measure everyone that gets on a plane and adjust the price accordingly?

Don't be daft.

That guy's not just fat he's really tall too.

I guess fat people like to visit other countries too, although perhaps they should just strap an outboard engine to their backs and barge it.

Definately buy two seats because , even for a no thrills service your paying for "your" seat and having some fat lard ass take up half of yours isnt exactly fair is it?

I did like those, if the flight wasn't full ( after paying for two seats ) that they would reimburse the cost of the extra ticket which i say is fair enough as some people cannot help their weight problem due to disease/illness and discriminating against these people by charging them extortionate amounts more for a ticket would be wrong imo.

Fat Americans lol lol...surely thats a safety risk there...anyhow im wondering if the plane actually managed to take off with him on board:p...dont they have a baggage limit or something:p

shouldnt be allowed to fly, suppose they have to do an emergency evacuation he is gonna get wedges somewere and block everyone off.

I reckon per aeroplane they should have one or two seats that are extra wide.

Like in a 747 with a 3.4/5.3 arrangement have two seats by the window instead of three for just the one aisle.

The charge for each of those two seats is one and a third of a normal seat if you're fat because you like the butter.

If you're fat because of medical reasons, charge the normal price for one seat.

Better still put the fatties into the cargo hold...job done and charge them extra for excess baggage:p:D
