how would you feel if you were the bloke in the middle seat?

I sat next to a guy on the tube that was huge, his spillage into my seat against my arm was surprising cold and not the heaving mass of warm sweaty flab I thought fat people were made of. No homo.

My bloke's 6'6", usually we can find a way to get a good seat so he's not uncomfortable, but the check-in system on our last (~8 hour, too) flight was rubbish and didn't differentiate the seats beyond exit seats (which were all taken by then).

We ended up with upright seats backing against the plane bulkhead which wouldn't recline. The two blokes in front of us, of course, wanted to recline to sleep on the flight. Neither of us got any sleep, we did ask them nicely not to recline all the way, although the one in front of me (with headphones and an eyemask on) was leant back all the way even when food was coming around, that was very difficult to deal with even for a shorty like me :(

That happened to me on the way to France. It was a big guy, too! Out of principle, I slid down in my seat, put my knees up and pushed so the guy was sitting upright for pretty much the entire journey. :D

Surely eat less food (particularly junk) and even light excercise (I'm talking even sitting in a chair and doing 1 pound weights or something) and it will eventually make some difference?

Too many variables to answer, you're wrong for most of them, you don't know what he eats or how much doing weights with arms is going to effect the stomach area in how long a period, it's pointless really.

Don't assume all fat people eat junk food either, my dad doesn't, I do, I'm a skinny person.

It sounds so frickin' simple to write down though doesn't it? :P

this is why i always book an aisle seat :p

my dad had this on a flight before. überfat bloke in the middle, spilling out of his seat.
he kicked up a massive fuss and was moved.

i think it's ridiculous. when you're charged per kilo for overweight baggage, i can't understand how obese people get to fly on 1 ticket.
if you take up 2 seats, you pay for 2, be it on a plane or train or whatever. it's only fair

Eventually, yes. Eventually.

That's the problem with many people once they reach a certain obese level. It becomes a trap. They're stuck there. Can you imagine how embarassing it must be for an obese person to be spilling into another obviously unapproving person's seat? Think about that for a moment, all of you.

"Eventually" doesn't cut it for most of them. They need to see results, and the fact that in reality they don't come quickly is just more of a sucker-punch. They put the effort in for a few weeks and when nothing noticable is happening (even though small improvements are occuring), they give in and fall right back into the habits that made them obese in the first place. It doesn't help having people constantly lambasting them for being fat ****s also.

This particular photo, I believe the dude has purchased the seats behind and is perched there talking to his friend. You can clearly see the guy sitting next to him chatting. Nobody, no matter how fat (in my experience), would see it acceptable to be sitting in that position - but feel free to run wild with your "inconsiderate fatty" free-for-all.

People the size of this guy need help, they really do, and they most certainly have the power (with that help) to fix the problem -- there's no denying that. However, in doing so they can go through a trial more strenuous than any of you laughing jackals could ever comprehend. Accepting this photo on face value (ie. "Fat guy in aisle seat TAKES UP WHOLE AISLE!!!") also shows an extreme amount of ignorance. We have no idea of the context in which it was taken. I can show you a photo of 6 human turds in a pile and claim my dog did it one sitting. Many of you will believe it. Wake up.

The trick is to put your knees against the back of the chair so it can't go too far and complain to the flight attendant when it's time for food since chairs are supposed to be upright for that. I don't see the point in letting people get away with being rude on a long-haul flight, you've paid the same to be there after all.

My boyfriend is 6'3 so we also have the legroom issue to a certain extent. It's fine when you can book seats in advance and pick out the ones with more space, flying with budget airlines is a pain unless you get on first though.

Should just bloody make larger chairs instead of having them all the same, its excluding large people. Not that many per trip i would have thought so 5 ish extra wide seats should be built and put in the back of the airplanes, trains, blah blah.

If I have to pay silly rates to take a couple of kg's of weight over my allowance it cost nearly £20/kg in excess weight charges? Then I've got to stand behind some obese monster who could munch half the plane who has a limitless personal weight allowance?

I'd like to see them have to pay such charges as they are using far more fuel than my shirts and shoes are.
I think this guy may be onto a free luggage scam here... What he has done is swallowed his luggage before the flight, like a drugs mule... The only downside is he may have to wait a day or two before he can use his luggage after he lands! :p

Being tall doesn't cause you to spill over into the aisle or someone else' seat. We don't care about being tall in this thread.

The tall people obviously do care, if you are tall your legs are crunched up in the back of someones seat its going to hurt your legs and the back of the person sat in front of you.
Similar thing (though nowhere near as annoying) as a fat person who spills into someone elses seat sideways. Tall people generally just do the same as me and stick their legs long ways under the seat in front

This is a simple fix, one which goes beyond stupidity that airlines have not done this already.

You have a baggage limit. Scrap it. Change it for a person limit. 150 kilos. If you + baggage is < 150 kilos, all is well. If you + baggage > 150 kilos, pay through the nose.

Good idea dude, make some scale weight to height ratio to make it fair so if a fat sod your get charged more.

Genius dude could be on to something :p

I bet it breaches some human rights act come to think of it.
