A friend of mine has a Dolce Gusto KP210040, he says its good.

Thinking about getting one too, can get it for £67. Anyone here have an opinion on these?

Not a caffeine addict then, my Gaggia Espresso is never off...

http://www.nmhct.nhs.uk/Pharmacy/caffeine.htm

The symptoms of caffeinism can include feelings of anxiety and nervousness, sleep disruption (especially difficult getting off to sleep), restlessness, irritability, diuresis (passing lots of water/urine), stomach complaints, tremulousness, palpitations and arrythmias (changed heart rate, especially faster beating). 150mg of caffeine at bedtime has been shown to have a marked effect on how long it takes to get to sleep, reduce total sleep time, the quality of sleep and REM (dreaming) periods. Caffeinism can make some illnesses such as anxiety more resistant to drug treatment. People who suffer from panic attacks may be more sensitive to the stimulant effects of caffeine.

Suddenly stopping taking caffeine can produce problems. Withdrawal from even moderate amounts of caffeine can produce headaches (52%), anxiety (10%), rebound drowsiness, fatigue and lethargy, with many other effects reported.

"Caffeinism" is considered a drug addiction and caffeine withdrawal syndrome is a documented psychiatric condition.

Anybody any opinions on DeLonghi machines? Looking at an EC330S for ~£80 over the Gaggia Cubika for £99, as the latter doesn't have a frother.

Avoid it, it's rubbish.

I have one and my £20 stove-top Mocka pot makes a superior cup.

I have a Tassimo that has never been used since the novelty wore off. It makes a good coffee but there just isn't enough variety to choose from. I'm now looking for a decent coffee maker that can take grounds.

Not enough choice? Have you checked online?

We've got one in the office and one at home and both are used daily for the past year. Its no substitue for a proper grinder and coffee machine, but for a no fuss cup thats a lot better than instant it does the job.

I

Have a phillips senso and love it.
Get a big mug of hot milk and let the coffee flow into that.
Real nice, all my chums enjoy it and it is easy to use.

I've had a coffee machine for the last 5 years, a Morphy Richards filter one. Can't drink instant coffee now, it taste nothing like real coffee

Use my coffee machine usually twice a day..

It was meant as a joke and was based mainly on my experiences with friends and family members. See: Wii's, smoothie makers, coffee machines and that latest must have gadget from JML...

I can accept the fact that people may use Wii's and coffee machines more than once - I'm sure some people must have used them twice. :p

You can currently get a Gaggia Cubika for £99 from a the website of a high street electrical retailer.

If not, then you have a few choices.

Aeropress
Handpresso Domepod
Ceramic filter cone and swissgold filter
Chemex filter pot *very nice*
Cona Vac Pot *very funky*
Presso espresso machine *very odd thing*

Depends on how much you want to spend really.

Errr - Iberital MC2 doserless for £99?

Great list :D Has anyone actually used any of the contraptions above? The Presso, Cona vac and the Chemex all look awesome

Coffee machines are like Wii's - used once and then forgotten about.

I bought mine a while back (god probably like 6 months ago thinking about it) and it's still being used, the only problem is that I can't buy the cartridge things (mines like Tassimo but called something like "gusto"). I like the fact I don't need any milk for a start, and the coffees that it makes are good. I don't care about different types of coffee in the morning I just want something that tastes nice and it does the job and looks good in the kitchen.

Ceramic filter cone is used at least once a day. Normally 3-4 times a day. :D
Aeropress is used every couple of days.
My Vac Pot broke. :(

Getting the Handpresso for christmas *but have already tried it... works really quite well for quite a simple idea*

Chemex is on the to buy list.
Want to try a presso - just looks funky. :D

Was the Vac Pot any good?

Was very good - you need a little burner with it as well to heat the water in the bottom - really cool for use on a dinner table. ;)

Takes about 8-10 minutes depending on burner capability.

Am I being stupid, or are these less common then rocking horse poop in this country?

Steve @ Hasbean is trying to get them, but they are not common at all over here. There's a place in ireland whose website is being renovated that sells them though. Not sure on the cost.

Would an aga suffice to heat the vac pot bottom chamber? I assume it would be safe as it has a hotplate, a bit like an electric cooker.
So by a burner, you mean like a gas/ paraffin naked flame burner that you place the vac thing on?

I used a little paraffin burner. Never tried it on a hotplate.
