Bands that you can't understand why they're popular/famous?

U2
Westlife (cover band)
Jamie Cullum (marketing niche filler who only appears at Christmas)
Robbie Williams
McFly

I could go on for longer than I'd thought!
 
Surely this is just going to be people listing pop bands though? The clue is in the title... thread seems a bit pointless if you don't mind me saying.

My opinion - one of the best rock bands ever. I know I'll get slated here for saying that, but that's what makes life interesting - eveyone has their own opinion. I have seen U2 live a few times and their shows are just amazing.

People tend to have a go a U2 when they really are wanting to have a pop a Bono.

As for music I have no desire (get it ?) for

Generic pop (Westlife, McFly etc)
Most dance stuff (Sounds the same half the time)
Anything generated by X-Factor
Anything generated by Disney (HSM stuff and the like)
 
People who don't know about U2 in the 80's just say U2.

Imagine a band today that isn't part of the scene and has more to them than music and you can tell through the music...

Yeah I don't get why people think U2 are overrated, okay they're a bit generic now, but (and this probably isn't going to sell it :o ) 20 years ago they were top notch.

Nirvanna is another one me, amazing what shooting yourself can do for you. Ok they had a few good songs, but no different to a lot of other bands.
 
I don't understand why Babyshambles or The Libertines are/were popular. Just not my sort of thing I suppose.

Most of the bands listed above I can see why they are generally popular. I don't like Radiohead myself but I can see why people do.
