Bands that you can't understand why they're popular/famous?

I must have listened to The Resistance about 200 times through.

It's not garbage. It's just different. Uprising, Natural Selection, MK ultra, The Resistance and all of the Exogenisis tracks are brilliant.

It's stupendously pretentious.

I wouldn't forgive any band a song in French with a clarinet solo, even if they were French and the song was called "Clarinet solo".

Nah it's garbage. But they don't deserve to be a part of this thread because they are so popular and famous because the first 3 albums were top notch and they put on a really good live show, anyone who went to Wembley or even just watched the DVD would know that.

Whilst it's all down to preference anyone slating Muse/ Radiohead need to show some respect. They are exceptional performers and great songwriters, regardless of weather you like their style or not.

Muse are a 3 piece band ffs, what kind of standards do you guys have? For 3 people they make an incredible noise.

No, I don't think so. If you don't like something, you just don't like it. Respect? You can sod right off.

Indeed. I'm getting offtopic with my complaints about The Resistance. The first 3 are great albums, though you can see the start of things getting a bit ropey on Absolution.

Depends how you define pretentious. I don't feel as if Matt is trying to impress his listeners, he's as I said, doing something different.

I also didn't list I Belong to You as one of the better tracks ;)

To say the final three tracks are pretentious is just ignorant imo.

I like old muse, OoS through to Absolution.... top quality music. The Resistance and to a slightly (although not much) lesser degree, Blackholes, were absolute pap. Really disliked them, pretentious as hell and just really not that good!

However, in this topic I'd put RHCP as my number one nomination. Poor man's faith no more is an ace description, like that.

Never heard people say something along the lines of 'Whilst I appreciate it, it's not for me'?

:o

Draw lines here, draw lines there. Subtle differences between disliking and not understanding success, and between acknowledging musicianship despite not actually liking the music, give me a break.

Yes I've heard people say it but don't tell me who I can and can't apply it to.

Also known as ignorance.

Amen. One listen of something (or not at all in some peoples cases) and then dismissing it entirely as the worst thing on the planet is pretty much ignorant.

I've listened to the new Muse album over 50 times, even went to see them on their tour, and then came to the conclusion that the new stuff is rubbish (imo of course, others will like it).

Rubbish in comparison to contemporary rock music or rubbish in comparison to their older stuff?

I think it's such a shame to label Exogenesis part 1/2/3 as rubbish :(

Rubbish as in side by side to the older stuff it doesn't compare, them playing New Born right after 3 Resistance tracks when I saw them made it oh so clear to me. It is however their band, they get to do what they want, and if that's the direction they want to go in then fair play, myself and many other fans just probably won't be going along with them.

The Exogenesis Symphonies are the only tracks I still listen to off the new album, along with MK Ultra (why can't they play this live yet?) I would have been happy with an EP with these on before they came back and released an album that sounded more like Muse.

Would Nirvana have been substantially less popular if Kurt hadn't shot himself? To misquote the depressed geezer himself, 'burn out vs fade away,..' hmmm
