Gordon Brown attacks public sector pay

I think the vast majority of public sector workers know EXACTLY how screwed up this country is both financially and morally given that its on the news 24/7 and the fact that the majority (if not all) public departments have had memos/releases detailing cost cutting and efficiency reviews as well as redundancies.

Just because you dont get to read about it on your daily newspaper trawl of the net doesnt mean its not happening.... Effectively, and not unusually, your arguments and "facts" (and I use this term loosely) are wholly incomplete and flawed....

I look forward to a reasoned retort which is more than your usual politician's 2 line "sound-bite"

No you dont the bond markets are knife edge away of a worldwide collapse. look how many sovereign defaults there are, and theres more to come.
this leverage could destroy everyone.

Still awaiting a PROPER response for you Matt.... Your soundbites are not just inadequate.... they dont make sense... You havent responded to ANY of my points here but then you always seem to avoid things that you cant answer with a link to a news site

Lets here YOUR views, not someone else's.

I just smile sometimes when I hear ppl saying things like "I pay your wages" etc.... They seem to think that Public Service workers dont pay tax/NI

They, like matttheman, are quick to jump on this but seem to forget that VAST sums of money used for illigitimate benefit claimers or junkie scum claiming a methadone script for their 20th year running (20 years on methadone is a FACT and not an exaggeration).

It's ok Richie, just smile and lay back in the knowledge that you are better off than most of society!

I really don't think I did.

LOOK again.

Where did I change any word at all?

Your on drugs mate.
You didn't misquote me. You changed my words to make your argument. You replaced my words 'quite a few' with 'a lot'.

You look again. I quoted exactly where you did it.

I half quoted your sentences but even the full quotes would have made the point, but even still I changed no words at all. Straight forward copy and paste.

I cannot make this any clearer, hopefully someone else will point this out to you.

If you cannot see this, I worry you are seemingly high up grade and in charge of performance data.

I'm going to leave this here.

Beg pardon ??

If you read it properly you will see that I dont include ALL benefit claimants in this... I used the word "illegitimate" which most ppl would say is sufficent to indicate ppl that are milking the system and have no intention of coming off them e.g. ppl that dont want to work....

If you were not being sarcastic then apologies but I will leave my explanation there for ppl that honestly mis-understood it

Sorry Richie, was being sarcastic. Assume, you didn't catch my last post in this thread.

You seem to be very knowledgeable on this subject. Can you give me some more detail on what caused the recession?

The credit expansion over the past 5 years and the government spending money that it didnt really have would be two of the many causes.

You talk about ninja loans, and alt a loans this country has the same its just call selfcert loans, all you needed was a pay slip and off you go.

So you don't see a difference there. I never posted 'a lot'. I posted 'a few'. The difference in wording changes the whole argument.

Ahhhh ffs why couldn't you have quoted it before? I was looking at everything but that! :p

Either way still, question still stands for 'quite a few'.. not that I care anymore.

Also, did your union rep have facility time then?

Sorry Richie, was being sarcastic. Assume, you didn't catch my last post in this thread.

Nope, didnt see it

No need for the sarcasm tho TBH... People fall on hard times, Very possible that very soon I will be one of them. For ppl that have worked and are actively looking for work - why would anyone have a problem with them claiming the dole etc ??

As I said, IMHO, there are "legit" and "non-legit" claimants for benefits e.g. -

Working family claiming childcare relief - legit
non-working families having more kids for benefits - non-legit
Someone seeking work and claiming dole - legit
Someone claiming their 20th year of methadone (bearing in mind its meant to a substitute that you wean off of) - non-legit.

Harsh ?? Maybe but dont connect my views with some kind of priviledged upbringing or that I think I am better than anyone because I didnt and I dont....

The fact is that Brown knows the majority of the public are loathing and have a general misconception of public sector workers, (many automatically assume local government). This is a cheap tactic to get misguided votes.

I don't personally know anyone who earns £150k per year where I work, which I agree is excessive for any local government worker regardless of rank.

However, Brown and his advisors also know that many people are ignorant enough to think that their average refuse collector is earning this amount. Psychology my dear friends I tell you!
