What's up with 58xx prices?

you guys should be lucky LOL all these nice flashy cards.
i work at ******s and the fastest card we have is a Nvidia 260 model lol

Quite the opposite I'm afraid. AMD are still only supplying tiny amounts in comparison to what the globe needs.

all those waiting for the price to drop back down to 200. get them while they are at 240ish or whatever it is at otherwise they going to keep crawling up lol

Its simple , the reason is ........ drum roll
..............

Because they can

For the last few years it has been nvidia's turn at price gouging because they
had the fastest card , oh I can remember back when the Ati fanboi's were shouting about this.

Now Ati have the fastest card and it is their turn the use extract the urine prices

i got mine for £298 on launch, isnt it great the the people that bought them on launch are not getting **** on for once ;)

same :p The first card I every bought and launch and the most expensive. A few months down the line and I feel satisfied with my purchase :D

I can see production cranking up and price going down a bit in January while preparing for the new Nvidea cards.

Actually I got a 4870x2 on launch, at £330 and they were £400 within a couple months. I got a 4890 about two weeks after launch at £145, where they are now, there was that period you could find some for £120-130 but that was way later.

I got a great deal on a 3870x2 on launch aswell.

The only time you get screwed at launch is going out and paying over the odds when people jack up the price above the RRP. I paid £190 for my 5850 on launch, will have 3 months use of it maybe before prices start approacing the £150-160 mark(which I'm guessing will happen sometime in Feb, post paper launch of a certain card and after TSMC get their production back up 50% higher than now).

Slackworth, there aren't supposed to be that many top end cards being made, enthusiast stores will always sell more top end kit than your average store, and even then numbers aren't great. Theres not much use selling a million 5870's today, and not being able to sell another one for 6 months. If TSMC hadn't left them dry for 6 weeks most of the people waiting now would have theirs, worldwide, and there would be few stock issues.

hehe i might sell both my 5870 sapphires on the bay or in mm and make a killing considering there both fantastic and also overclock like ninja`s 1000+core1300+ memory :)

im sure i could sell them for 320 easy... :D

Because TSMC are not ready to produce 40nm wafers in large numbers.

As things stand, Nvidia are actually doing a sterling job of keeping ATI prices down for everyone.
