I'm a dubber again !!!

the mk3 2.0 8v had the ancient o2o box. seeing as the mk4 had the same engine, i wouldnt be suprised if it was still using the o2o box too

Holy smoke look at all the responses...

The engine is the petrol 1.8 turbo 150 BHP, I tried double clutching this morning and it helped... but then again it takes a while to double clutch so might not really be doing any thing...

The engine does "rock" a bit so it might be worn mounts.. i'll get it on a ramp soon and have a poke

The reason i take it up that far is
A) it make it's most power at 5600
B) it sounds nice roaring off at a junction (in a oooo gap kinda way)

AGU engine code (i think) so not sure what box

Good stuff, had visions of OcUK pummeling you to death for getting the ghastly 2.0 8v lump!

Spent ages lookin on forums and talking to other people with the mk4 to find a car that was rapid but also gentle on my wallet...

looked at the 2.0 but it made 115bhp out of a 2.0 .... my 92 plate honda civic non vtec made 95bhp !!! and that was a 1.5 !!!

And you ended up with a Mk4 GTI? How did that happen? Did you give up looking for something rapid :p

Yer well i loved my Mk1 golf and have dribbled over the mk4 for ages...
but i heard sooo many bad things about them that i wanted to do my research, well as much as i could with out owning the car first... every thing else seems ok with the car, just the gear box when i thrash it...

tomorrow i might try taking it up to full revs with half throttle see if that works better...

Sounds expensive. Mines on 131k and smooth as anything, I have a polybush dog bone mount too which helps gear changes at higher RPM.

They aint rapid but with a remap they're decent performers, smooth power, bit of a turbo kick, could do a lot worse IMO.

I'd take it back if it's got a dodgy box :) But yes, welcome to a world of niggles! Haha. Treated mine to 300 quids worth of work today. Cambelt, tensioners and bearings, hydraulic tensioner not part of kit, waterpump, thermostat, coolant flush, aux belt, fuel filter. Look after 'em properly and don't nail them everywhere and bar the stupid niggles with things like door modules and so on they'll last a good while will those 1.8t engines.
